I was literally floating up those stairs.
My dress swished with every step, light and fluttery, the gold railing cool beneath my fingers as I trailed my hand along it like I was in some kind of fairy tale. Everything around me shimmered—gilded carvings, soft lighting, polished marble—and I swear I could hear the soundtrack of a excited/ jolly drama playing in my head
My heart? Racing. My brain? Spinning with excitement. Maybe he was already there waiting.
I tucked a piece of hair behind my ear, even though it didn’t need it, and tightened my grip on the knob of the door, my bow bouncing behind me like it was just as excited as I was.

I crept up behind him, holding my breath and carefully avoiding every creaky floorboard between the rows. The library was quiet—just the occasional rustle of paper or soft tap of footsteps in the distance. I was practically vibrating with anticipation.

The smell of coffee filled the space—rich, comforting, and familiar. i gently placed two cups onto the tray, along with a plate of buttery croissants still warm from the oven. The soft crackle of their crusts made me smile. It was peaceful—one of those rare evenings where everything just... slowed down.
Uncle stood near the railing, speaking in low, easy tones with Nikolai. His figure tall, calm, and impossibly still beside my uncle’s more animated presence. His posture relaxed, one hand in his pocket, the other resting on the edge of the glass railing. He didn’t speak much, but he didn’t need to. Just standing there, he seemed like he belonged to the silence of the evening itself.
