The soft chirping of birds outside the window stirred Taehyung from sleep. The first light of morning sun spilled through the thin curtains, painting golden stripes across the bedsheets.
Taehyung blinked awake slowly, warmth crawling across his face as he rolled over and buried his cheek into the soft pillow.
A kind of peaceful quiet he both loved and hated — the kind that reminded him he was alive… and alone.
Because that’s what he always did.
He lay still for a moment, curled beneath the blankets, his eyes half-lidded, taking in the familiar comfort of his room — the worn bookshelf beside his bed, the cracked ceramic mug holding his brushes, the unfinished sketch tacked to the wall above his desk.
Taehyung finally sat up, blankets tumbling off his lap, hair messy and eyes puffy with sleep. His bare feet touched the cool floor.
The faint aroma of coffee and toast drifted from the kitchen, and somewhere beyond his door, he could hear Hoseok singing off-key.
That voice — warm, familiar — was the best alarm he could ever ask for.
Their house was small, old in some places, cozy in others. A creaky staircase, peeling paint on the porch railings, the kind of furniture you didn’t buy new but inherited with stories. Still, it was home. And it was theirs.
Hoseok had taken responsibility for both of them after their parents died in that accident four years ago.
One moment, they had been a family of four. The next — just two brothers in a too-quiet house.
He still remembered that night like it had been etched into his bones.
His parents had left laughing, dressed in formal clothes, on their way to their best friends’ anniversary party.
His mother had kissed his forehead before they walked out.

But They never came back.
Shaking the thought away, He brushed his hair from his eyes and stood, stretching.
