Ryme looked down. Defeated.

Ryme

“Okay… I understand.”

Monster twisted the rusty handle.

The door creaked open slowly.

Darkness.

Thick, endless darkness.

Like light had never touched this place.

We peered in.

Emmanuel

“…It’s empty,”

I said, turning to Monster.

Emmanuel

“Nothing’s there.”

Then—

Ryme

“What’s that sound?”

Ryme asked, voice trembling.

Monster turned toward the window.

There was a faint rattling.

Then a loud knock

Not from the bunker.

From the outside door.

Monster’s eyes shifted. He looked at his wristwatch.

Then he froze.

Emmanuel

“Monster?”

Emmanuel

“What’s wrong?”

He didn’t answer.

Me and Ryme turned to the door

Ryme

“…What the heck… It was night, right?”

But outside—

The light was blinding.

Like morning.

But wrong.

We opened the door And chaos exploded in front of us.

People were running.

Screaming.

Covered in ash and dirt.

Some had burn marks. Some were bleeding.

And in the middle of it all a woman.

She stood completely still, wearing a long old-fashioned gown.

The hem was torn. Covered in mud and red stains.

Actually

We all were.

Frozen.

Speechless.

Terrified.

Because this wasn't the world we had come from.
