His Obsession

His Obsession

Chapter 1

Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
I’m Meher. 22, literature student, and a firm believer that some stories choose you before you even begin to write them.” They call me soft-hearted, but I’ve got fire where it counts. I live with my brother Karan—overprotective, loud, and annoyingly lovable. I dream in verses and live in metaphors. But lately... the poetry feels dangerous. Especially when it’s written in his eyes—Aarav Malhotra's eyes. He’s off-limits. Completely forbidden. But tell me, since when did fire care about boundaries?
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav. 28. I build empires, break rules, and bury my past under cold ambition.” Karan’s been my brother in everything but blood. Loyal. Unshakable. But there’s one line I was never supposed to cross. Her name is Meher. She’s warmth in a world I’ve kept frozen. Too young. Too pure. Too dangerous. I shouldn’t want her. But I do. And when a man like me wants something... he doesn’t ask twice.
Karan Sharma
Karan Sharma
I’m Karan. 30. Elder brother, best friend, and the guy who doesn’t take chances when it comes to family.” Meher’s my little sister, my entire world. I raised her, protected her, and built a life where no one could hurt her. Aarav? He’s my brother too. I trust him with everything I own. But if I ever find out there’s more behind those looks they exchange... God help the man who thinks he can love my sister in silence.
The Sharma villa stood like a quiet monarch in the heart of Delhi—majestic, warm, and always bustling with life. Bougainvillea trailed along the wrought-iron gates, and the faint scent of mogra lingered in the humid June air. Inside, fairy lights flickered, soft music hummed from the living room speakers, and platters of sweets and snacks moved from one guest to another.

*stepped out of Black car*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*sigh of relief*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*one hand shielding her eyes from the sun*
Her jhumkas jingled as she adjusted her dupatta and looked up at the house that had once been her whole world.
Two years at university had changed her—her hair was shorter now, her skin tanned from too much sun and too little care, but her eyes still sparkled with that curious warmth. She clutched her duffle bag and walked toward the open front door.
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*moves her hand to ring the bell*
But before that his elder brother , Karan , nearly tackled her in a hug
Karan Sharma
Karan Sharma
Meher! God, look at you! You look like you’ve seen all seven continents
Karan Sharma
Karan Sharma
*ruffling her hair*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
And you look like a dad of three *shot back with a grin, dodging his hand*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
When did you start balding?
Karan laughed, dragging her inside.
Karan Sharma
Karan Sharma
I didn’t. But thanks for crushing my confidence in front of everyone.
The living room was packed with familiar faces—family friends, neighbors, cousins. Everyone had gathered for Meher’s return, but she was already exhausted.
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*her eyes scanning the room to find an escape *
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*that's when she felt it*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*that stare*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*A slow, heated kind of gaze that crawled over her skin and made her spine stiffen*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*She turned*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*and saw him*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
AARAV MALHOTRA *she whispered*
He stood across the room with a glass of whiskey in his hand, dressed in a deep charcoal kurta, sleeves rolled up just enough to show the veins in his forearms. His beard was trimmed close, hair styled back effortlessly. He looked nothing like the boy she remembered. No… he wasn’t a boy anymore.
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*she froze*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*The air in her lungs paused mid-breath*
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
*talking with someone and nodding politely*
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
*but his eyes were on her*
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
*Dark, unreadable, intense*
Their eyes locked—and a bolt of something raw passed between them.
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*She quickly looked away, her heart pounding*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
“Who invited him?”
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*She muttered under her breath to Karan, trying to sound casual*
Karan Sharma
Karan Sharma
My business partner
Karan Sharma
Karan Sharma
*Completely unaware of the tension bubbling behind him*
Karan Sharma

And my best friend, remember? Don’t be awkward, Meher. He’s been around since forever.
That was exactly the problem.
Aarav had been the older brother figure when she was a gawky teenager in pigtails. He used to tease her, call her “little Meher” and flick her forehead. But now… now, she was twenty-two. And he wasn’t flicking her forehead. He was looking at her like—
Like he saw her.
The party went on. Laughter, music, food, and the buzz of conversation.
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*Couldn't concentrate*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*feeling his gaze follow her every time she moved across the room *
She tried chatting with her cousins, laughing too hard at jokes, pretending to be unbothered—but her skin prickled every time she sensed him nearby.
Later, while escaping to the backyard for air, she found a quiet spot near the garden swing.
And a voice found her.
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
I almost didn't recognise you
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*she turned*
She turned. Aarav stood there, hands in his pockets, the golden light from the house outlining the sharp lines of his face.
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
Almost ?
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*sitting straighter on the swing*
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
You look different
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*Titled her head *
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
Different good or different awkward?
A pause
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
Dangerously good
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
*low voice*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*breath caught*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*fingers tightened around the chain of the swing*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
You always knew how to make things weird.
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
And you’ve always known how to act like you don’t know the effect you have
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
*stepped closer to her*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*Meher laughed, nervously*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
Wow. Look at you. All grown-up and dramatic.
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
*smiled faintly, but his gaze didn’t soften*
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
You’ve grown up too, Meher.
He said her name like it tasted different now. Like it burned slightly on his tongue.
Silence settled between them like a storm cloud ready to burst
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*looked away*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*pretending to be interested in the wind swaying the tree branches*
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
I should go inside
Meher Sharma
Meher Sharma
*said softly*
Aarav Malhotra
Aarav Malhotra
You should
But neither of them moved.
Their eyes met again—and for a heartbeat, the world felt quiet.
**Inside the house** Karan laughed at a joke someone cracked, blissfully unaware that just outside his home, his best friend and baby sister had exchanged something wordless and dangerous.
The kind of look that changes everything.
The kind that ignites the first spark of something no one saw coming.
