Red Hood and Hungry werewolf
It had been a week now since Taehyung arrived at his grandmother’s home.
Her color was back in her cheeks, the rasp in her breath long gone thanks to the herbs and soups he’d prepared for her day after day. She was smiling again, walking through her little garden, even feeding the hens without his help this morning.
Taehyung/Red hood
“You’re glowing, halmeoni,” (he’d said softly, spooning her a taste of his morning stew.) “You’re fit and fine now. Why don’t you come back with me? Stay with me and eomma. We’ll take care of you properly.”
But she had only chuckled, waving her hand at him.
Taehyung's Grandmother
“And who will take care of my farm? My animals? You think those hens will water themselves?” (she teased.)
Taehyung/Red hood
(Taehyung’s lips had tugged into a little pout at her stubbornness, but he didn’t press further. He simply sighed, nodding.) “Fine. But promise you’ll come visit when you can. Eomma misses you too.”
Taehyung's Grandmother
“I promise,” (his grandmother had said, smiling as she reached to tie his red cloak around his shoulders again, the same way she always did.)
They’d eaten together one last time, sharing soft laughter and dumplings under the warm midday sun. The little yard glowed golden, the air sweet and quiet.
When it came time to leave, Taehyung stood at the door, his basket full. She’d packed him with jars of pickled radish, dried herbs, candies, and even a tiny pouch of coins for no reason at all.
Taehyung/Red hood
“Halmeoni, this is too much,” (he whined.) “I can’t even carry it all.
Taehyung's Grandmother
(But she only shook her head.) “Take it. You never know what you’ll need.”
Taehyung's Grandmother
(Her hands cupped his face once more, her thumb brushing his soft cheek.) “And don’t forget… reach home before the sun sets. Don’t linger in the forest after dark. You know how it is.”
(He nodded, that same innocent smile on his lips.) “I know. Don’t worry. I’ll be careful.”
With that, Taehyung waved one last time, stepping onto the path, his red hood glowing like a flame against the quiet hills.
The forest greeted him warmly at first.
The same way it always did trees swaying gently, tiny beams of light breaking through the canopy, wildflowers dancing along the path.
He hummed quietly, the weight of his basket swinging in rhythm with his steps. His boots crunched softly against the leaves and stones, and he couldn’t help but let his eyes wander again.
The forest was beautiful today. Even more than usual. Every leaf seemed greener. Every birdcall sounded like music.
But still… something about it was different.
It wasn’t silent this time.
It wasn’t loud either but somewhere behind the usual rustle of branches and soft scurry of squirrels… he felt it
At first, he brushed it off. Maybe a fox. Or a deer. The forest always had creatures hiding.
But when he stopped walking, the faintest crack of a twig came from somewhere behind him.
When he started again, soft and quick, something else started too.
His chest tightened. He tugged the hood tighter around his shoulders and quickened his steps, boots crunching faster.
The presence didn’t fade.
It followed. Smooth, quiet, deliberate. Never too close but never too far either.
His fingers clenched tighter around his basket handle. His heart picked up, a faint tremor slipping into his lips.
Was it just his imagination? The stories his mother told? His grandmother’s warnings?
Deep between two trees, just beyond the path, a pair of eyes glimmered through the shadows.
Even in the faint light, he could see the faint outline of a figure broad shoulders, dark hair, taller than any man he’d seen in his village.
And a grin. Barely there. But unmistakable.
Taehyung’s breath caught in his throat. His legs felt heavy, his chest rising and falling too fast.
The figure didn’t move closer. Not yet.
