Your body reacts before your mind can catch up—a spark of heat mixed with fury. You hate that he’s right.

His lips graze your ear, soft enough to make you shiver, rough enough to make you remember.

“I’m going to make you pay for every second I was unconscious,” he whispers, his voice coiled tight with vengeance.

“Every second I thought I might die... and every second I’ve spent alive—thinking about you.”

I was dead technically, A few minutes, tops. Very dramatic.

Cecily screamed.” He chuckles. “Then she got to work.”

You flinch.

“Cecily—she helped you?”

You stay silent.

He leans in, eyes glittering.

“Cecily.”

The name hits you like a slap.

Creighton king

“Did you really think she was your friend?”

He takes a slow step forward.

Creighton king

“She was mine first. Always has been.”

Annika Volkov

“No... she wouldn’t—”

Creighton king

“She did.”

His hand brushes a strand of hair behind your ear, mockingly gentle.

Creighton king

“She put you on that plane herself. Gave you a story about a supply run. All part of the plan.”

Your knees go weak.

Annika Volkov

“Why?” you whisper.

Creighton king

“Why do you think?” His fingers tilt your chin up.

Creighton king

“She always loved a king. And you? You left me like I was nothing.”

He moves in again, lips barely grazing your cheek.

“You made your move, Annika. You pulled the trigger. Now it’s my turn.”
