Taehyung (15 years)

he was no longer the cheerful boy he used to be. He had grown quiet.

Over the past two years, the Kim family had fallen on hard times—their business had gone bankrupt.

Mr. Kim visited the school principal.

Sitting across from him in the office, the principal said gently,

I'm sorry, Mr. Kim. It's just not possible. We don’t have any scholarship seats available. Please try to understand.

Mr.kim

"But please, Principal... just for one student," He pleaded. "His marks were good—he missed the cutoff by only two points. Our family is struggling financially. If he can't attend school, this entire year will be wasted."

Seeing the desperation in Mr. Kim’s eyes, the principal sighed and finally said,

"Only because we’ve known each other for so long… I’ll help. He may write the exams as a private student, but he cannot attend school like a regular student. That’s all I can do."

Mr. Kim nodded at this.

Mr.kim

"Thank you. Truly, thank you so much," he said, tears in his eyes. "I won’t forget this favor."

He returned to their apartment, a modest place they had moved into after selling their house and all their assets to pay off their debts.

The Kim family believed in doing what was right—they had paid every last debt, never cheating on anyone.

When Mr. Kim explained the situation to Mrs. Kim and Bogum.

Bogum

"What? No school? But how will I learn? I’ll fail everything! And how can I face my friends? I’ll become a laughingstock! I want to go to school—I don’t know how, but I have to!" He broke down in tears.

Mrs. Kim gently comforted him, her mind racing. Suddenly, she had an idea. She turned to Mr. Kim and shared it with him. Mr. Kim nodded in agreement.

They went to Taehyung’s room.

They saw that he was seated at his study table, and studying.

Then, they both entered the room.

"Taetae, come here," she said softly.

Taehyung looked up at his mother, then walked over to her.

She patted his hair lovingly. She explained the situation in detail and finally asked,

mrs.kim

Would you be willing to study at home?

Taehyung looked at her, and he wanted to say no. But before he could speak, Mrs. Kim added gently,

If you give up this scholarship seat, your brother can have it.

Mr.kim

Taetae, you’re already so good at everything—you don’t need school to keep learning. You just have to prepare for and write the final exams. What do you say?

Taehyung blinked slowly and nodded, not saying a word.As He didn’t want his brother to be sad.

Seeing this, they smiled with relief and quietly left the room. Taehyung remained alone.
