You really notice everything, huh? Maybe too much.
Damien
I notice what matters. Like when someone’s trying to act chill but you can practically see the nerves bubbling underneath.
Eli took a slow sip of his drink, fighting the urge to hide the tremble in his fingers. Everything was real now with no screens between them, no distance to hide behind.
Eli
Yeah, well. I’m better at pretending online.
Eli admittedly honestly
Damien
Online you’re fearless. Here you’re... more interesting.
Eli’s heart jumped. The way Damien said more interesting was a tease, but it felt like a crack in his armor.
Eli
I’m glad I could surprise you. Thought you might be bored by now.
Damien
Bored? No way. You keep me on my toes. But don’t mistake that for catching feelings.
Eli swallowed, the knot in his throat tightening. Of course Damien wouldn’t want feelings. He barely wanted them either except he already did.
Eli
Yeah, feelings. The thing you’re so good at running from.
Damien
I don’t run. I just don’t stick around long enough to get caught.
Eli laughed softly, biting his lip. The tension between them pulsed with every word, every glance.
Eli
So tonight is just drinks, right? No expectations, no complications.
Damien
Just drinks. And maybe a little trouble.
Eli’s smile faltered. He knew Damien meant it. Trouble was the name of their game. But trouble was also exactly what Eli was falling into.
Eli
Trouble sounds like a risk I’m willing to take.
Damien
That’s the spirit. Now let's get fucked up.
They laughed, but the space between them felt charged, alive with things neither said aloud yet
