The next morning, Himani's small study room, now slightly tidier, thanks to her Bua's frantic cleaning. The air is thick with the scent of a floral air freshener. Himani sits at her desk, trying to look studious, but her eyes keep darting to the door. She's wearing her 'serious study' clothes, but somehow feels ridiculous.
Himani Kaushal [fl]
The first study session with a future doctor. A real MBBS student..... (;ŏ﹏ŏ)!!!
Her heart was doing its own version of a tabla rhythm.
What is she made a fool of herself?? What if he saw how truly, utterly hopeless she was at NEET physics??
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*picked up her pen, then put it down. Picked it up again.*
This is worse than the actual NEET exam itself.
A gentle knock on the open door. Kartik holding a cup of chai. He's dressed simply in a t-shirt and track pants, looking annoyingly fresh.
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
*smiles*
Ready for Mission: NEET Domination, Himani?? Bua sent chai. Thought you might need some fuel. Ye lo.
[here, take this.]
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*thinking in mind*
Chai!!! And he brought it!!!
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*looking like a nervous squirrel but tried to remain calm*
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*voice a little too high*
Arre!!!, You shouldn't have bothered, I could have... Gone downstairs.
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
*walking in, placing the cup on her desk*
No bother at all. Consider it part of my 'tutor tax'. So, where do we begin?? Physics?? Chemistry?? Biology??
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
Or should we just start with 'what is NEET and why does it hate me?'
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*muttering, taking a quick sip of the hot chai*
Mujhe to lagta hai NEET mujhse nafrat karti hai, especially physics.
[I think NEET hates me, especially physics.]
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
*chuckles, pulling up a chair opposite her*
That's a good starting point. Tell me, what's giving you the most trouble right now?? Kon sa topic sar dard de raha hai??
[Which topic is giving you a headache??]
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*pointing vaguely at the open physics textbook*
Everything. This chapter, mainly, "Work, Energy and Power". My work is zero, my energy is negative and my power... well, let's just say I can barely lift this book ಠ︵ಠ
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
*smiles at her*
An hour later, Kartik is patiently explaining a problem on the whiteboard. Himani is trying her best to follow, but her mind keeps drifting to how neatly he writes, the way his hair falls over his forehead when he leans in. She imagines him writing a prescription or explaining a diagnosis with that same clarity and patience.
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
.... so if the force is applied at this angle, what will be the work done; you're pushing a very stubborn patient's gurney uphill. Kya hoga??
[What will happen??]
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*blinking, snapping back*
The gurney will roll back and hit me??
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
*A hearty laugh escapes hum, making Himani's cheeck burn. It's a nice laugh, though*
Hahaha!!! Achha! Okay, yes maybe. But scientifically?? In terms of physics for NEET??
[Good!]
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*frowning deeply at the whiteboard*
Umm... The gurney won't move?? Because I have no power??
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
*smiling, shaking his head slightly*
Arre baba, itna mushkil nahi hai.
[Oh dear, it's not that difficult.]
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
Think about the components of the force. Remember what we discussed about sine and cosine?? Yaad hai??
[Remember??]
She remembered his smile. And the faint scent of him. And. The fact that he was going to be a real doctor!!!
She felt like a total idiot. But a happy idiot, because he was here, helping her with her NEET physics.
Himani Kaushal [fl]
Right!!! Sine and... Cosine. Of course.
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*pick up a pen and scribbles something furiously, hoping it looks like she's doing complex calculations and not just doodling tiny hearts, or maybe a tiny stethoscope*
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
*leaning closer, his arm brushing hers as he points to her notebook*
Show me what you've got. Let's see your 'power' in action. Darasal kya likha hai??
[What have you actually written??]
His arm!!! Her entire body stiffened. She could feel the warmth from his skin. This was definitely more complicated than any physics problem or even human anatomy!!!
Himani Kaushal [fl]
*pulling her notebook back abruptly, nearly knocking over her chai*
Umm, woh... Abhi complete nahi hua.
[Umm, that... It's not complete yet.]
Himani Kaushal [fl]
It's a very theoretical approach.
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
*raising an eyebrow, a hint of amusement in his eyes*
Theoretical, huh?? Aacha, theek hai.
[No, worries.]
Kartik Shekhawat [ml]
What if we start with... How a doctor pushes a patient's wheelchair?? Usse shayad jaldi samajh aayega.
[Maybe that will make it easier to understand.]
My cutie pies, I want to ask something that should I write like this only??
I mean I saw that there are many youngsters here too, so will they be able to understand complex things??
Do tell me, I'll write next episodes based on this only...
