chapter four

Pulling the black hoodie over my head, I slipped through the door of my dorm, barely avoiding a direct hit with the watcher as I skipped over the brick walls surrounding it.

Phew. Close call.

Didn't waiting for the guard robots to catch me breaking the curfew, I broke into a slow jog into the dark alley that connects every corner of the sector system.

Most kids my age would lose a leg just thinking of going anywhere close, but good for them, I never been one. These are the easiest way to reach somewhere without getting killed by the agency.

Making sure that I'm well hidden from the normal view, I broke into a full sprint to the direction that would take me to the address Star messaged.

It didn't take me more than fifteen minutes to reach my destination.

Taking in a deep breath, I looked around the place in amazement.

I've never been to this part of the town..and wow. Just wow.

I whistled as I looked around at the thousands of bronze pillars stretching around everywhere in a intricate designs.. it's fascinating. Really.

Wait. It's not pillars.. it's building.

Holy **** this is madness.

Who would have imagined that Star lives here...this is hella cool!

I took off in a sprint, avoiding the corners as Star instructed me to.

According to the text, she lives in the far south end of this place, block 32..hmm.

As I was starting in that direction I saw a few guard drones flying my way..

Holy shit, they must have caught my heat signal..or God help me,the sounds.

I looked around for a place to hide, nuh uh. Not good.. here's nothing but bronze pillars here.

"Damn it,Star. You should have mentioned this.."

Muttering under my breath, I looked around until my eyes fell on a...hell yeah!

I grinned as I saw a pair of kids running around, and by the badges they have, they're all the kids of elites.

Just what I need right now.

Grinning, I pulled out the vial of silver necter I've been keeping in my pocket (that I've snagged from the guard room) and threw it at them.

Sure enough, the necter did it's trick.. it blasted with a maddening crunch, making the kiss screech from terror as everything blurred under a thick fog of silvery powder.

Take that, stupid bots! You'll be busy  cooing the stupid brats when I make my exit.

Not waiting for the distraction to fade away, I started on full speed towards Star's compartment..

The navigation was kind of hard(because all the building looks same, except the numbers on the third panel)but I found the door...or window, the way you look at it open to the block 32.

Looking up at the door, which is six feet in the air, I sighed.

can't anything be easy here?

Fixing my hoodie, I prepared myself to jump.

Here goes nothing.

I jumped, and for a second, I didn't feel anything.. for that fraction of time, I was so sure I am a goner and it's all a trap to lure me so they can have Andromeda kebab for dinner..

But then,my palms grabbed the ledge, I held onto it like my life depended on it..and hauled myself up and over it.

Looking down, I grinned. Sure enough,my life did depend on it.

I saw the drones buzz past the corner. That was close..

"I see, you made it here."

I jumped, almost falling on my *** as I looked at Star... what's she wearing?

I all but grinned at her leather jacket and black pants that hugged her likea second layerof skin.. and by the Star written in her collar, it's her working outfit..

"That thing is a bomb."

I made this signal with my fingers as if I'm firing a gun as I looked around her place.

"No guards waiting to kill me,eh?"

I smirked as she mentioned me to follow her without so much of a reaction.

I don't know what I  expected to see in her quarter but as I looked around the Mauve paints in the walls and  the hundreds of pictures scattered around the walls in different frames I smiled.

I guess the monsters have memories too, huh.

So that's how star looked like a few years ago, huh,I thought as I  looked into a particulaf picture where she's holding hands with another girl about her age..

I don't know why,but for some reason, the woman in this picture looks so familiar to me..the violet eyes, brown hair and fair complexion rings a bell..I can't pin point what exactly is familiar about her though.

"Who is this?" I asked Star as I  realized she's looking at me.

"It's a bit complicated. Let us sit down and I'll explain." She ushered me to one of the couches, along with the framed picture.

Tilting my head at her,I followed her around and couldn't help but notice that woman in a few other of the pictures, as well as a little girl and a man I don't know..

"Sit down."

Nodding,she walked around me.

"I didn't know a moron like you had friends. "

Smirking as her pupils dilated dangerously, I leaned back.

I know, I shouldn't play with fire, but what can I say? I'm just dangerously addicted to it.

"If I were you, I would advise you to behave here. Don't forget I'm one of the VAs,even when we have a..connection."

Raising my eyebrows, I spread my hands out in a gesture for her to carry on.

"So I'm here. You're here. What are you waiting for?"

She nodded again, looking somewhat uncomfortable as she sat across from me..

Star..uncomfortable? That's a first for me..

"So,who is that woman in the picture? I swear she looks familiar to me.." pointing my finger at the picture, I shrugged.

I swear if looks could cut through objects, I would be divided into microscopic pieces...

Oops. Wrong question,I thought.

"That's Aster Galaxy. " She replied after a long silence, and looked straight at me. "She's your mother. "

Then,at that moment I did the only reasonable thing possible, I burst out laughing.

"I didn't know you can joke so good,Star!"

I slapped my hand to my mouth and stared at star, still chuckling.

"You're kidding, right?"

When I looked back at Star,it hit me. Hard.

Standing up,I walked to the frame and looked at the picture of the two woman..

After all these years of being with Star,I know one thing, she never lies about something...

"It's my...mother. " I muttered, touching the picture of the brown haired lady with my fingertips, almost afraid it will break apart.

"It's my mother,Star. She's so beautiful.."

I whispered,almost as if I'm telling myself that.I didn't know..this is my mother. Hell,I didn't even know I had a mother!

"Sure she was. She was one of the most beautiful lady I've ever seen."

For one moment, I couldn't talk. I just stared at her, baffled.

Then I felt it. The white hot fury coursing through my veins as I  glared at her.

"Why..why didn't you ever tell me? Do you have any fucking idea how it must be like to live without your parents, much less now knowing who they are? You knew. You knew all along I had a mother, and you kept it from me!"

For a moment,I felt the utter shame was over Agent Star's face as she shook her head.

"I couldn't Andy, I just couldn't."

Wiping my eyes with the back of my hand,I laughed. That kind of laugh when you've lost all bonds and there's nothing to look back to.

"'You couldn't ',eh? You saw me going through all the shit I did,and you just couldn't tell me! I'm truly amazed at you, agent Star." Shaking my head,I  continued on, "I thought we were friends star. As fucked up as that is,I  trusted you. I don't even know what to believe anymore. You could lead me straight into a trap to kill me. Or worse, you could have killed my mother! Or better yet, she might be alive and well but she couldn't give a **** about me!"

I knew I've hit the nail when I felt rather than saw the katana slashing the air just a centimeter away from me before it cut the couch leather into two.

"Say what you want about me, Andromeda Galaxy but do not say anything about my sister. You do not know anything about her."

I felt my breath get stuck in my lungs as I looked at Star.

"You.. You're..her sister. "

She didn't reply for a moment, and we just stood there.

I was too lost in my thoughts to realize my legs has given up and I was sitting squat on the ground.

Then I felt the strangest of things happen. I felt Star's arms around me in a crushing hug.

I don't know what was wrong with me,but I felt my resolve slip by me as I started blabbering.

And for the first time,I cried. I truly cried like it was the most heartbreaking moment of my whole life.

Apparently, beasts still have hearts.
