7:30 a.m. The school compound is packed. Morning assembly.

*She doesn’t respond. No jokes. No usual eye-rolls.*

*Her fingers are crossed. Her heart? Loud. Way too loud for a regular morning.*

"Please, Baba… just today. Let him come. Please don’t let him skip today. Please… please… please…"

A chant. A sacred kind.

And then—

*He walks in. Not a hero moment. No wind. No dramatic entry.*

Just a boy. Short. Messy hair. Running — clearly late.

*Her eyes close.*

A tiny thank you slips out. "Thank you, Bapaa."

He walks past her. Doesn’t look. Doesn’t say good morning. Not like he used to in 5th.

Now they’re in 8th. And somehow, they don’t talk anymore

Like just seeing him was enough.

Classroom. Three rows. She’s in the girls’ lane. He’s in the boys’. One row in between. Same desk — third. Two benches apart.
