Chapter 4: Triggered Hearts

The morning after was never meant to be soft.

The velvet couch was cold beneath Becky’s bare skin, but the burn of Freen’s kiss still lingered on her lips. She sat up, slipping into the silk shirt Freen had tossed over her last night — oversized, black, and smelling like danger.

She hadn’t expected to fall asleep in the Queen’s arms.

She hadn’t expected him to show up either.

The door slammed open.

Three men stormed in — dark suits, loaded guns, and one familiar smirk.

Kavin.

Becky’s ex-handler. Ex-partner. Ex-lover.

"Well, well," he drawled, pointing a pistol right at Becky. "Didn’t take long for you to spread your legs for the queen, did it?"

Freen was on her feet in seconds — half-dressed, eyes cold, hand already on her holster.

"Wrong room," she said flatly. "Wrong tone."

Kavin laughed, but it didn’t reach his eyes. "You think sleeping with my asset makes her yours?"

Becky stood too, slowly, buttoning Freen’s shirt without breaking eye contact with Kavin.

"I was never yours," she said, voice like ice.

"That’s not what you whispered in Hong Kong," he snarled.

Freen didn’t blink. “If you came here to die, just say it.”

Gunshots.

Two of Kavin’s men dropped before they could even raise their weapons. Freen didn’t hesitate — just lifted her arm and pulled the trigger, smooth and precise. Becky dove behind the bar, pulling a hidden knife from her thigh holster.

Kavin lunged.

Freen moved faster.

They fought dirty — fists, elbows, knives. Blood sprayed across the marble floor. Freen slammed him into the wall, gun to his temple.

"You sent her to spy on me," she growled. "You played her."

"And you made her soft," he spat.

Freen cocked the gun. “She’s still mine.”

Becky moved behind Kavin silently, pressing the tip of her blade to his spine.

"Back off, or I’ll take out more than your pride."

He froze. For a moment, there was only the sound of heavy breathing, broken glass, and the soft jazz still playing from the speakers — sickly calm against the chaos.

Freen stepped back, grabbing Becky’s hand. Their fingers tangled, bloody and shaking.

Kavin laughed bitterly. “You think she’ll stay with you, Freen? She’s a liar. She’ll turn on you just like she turned on me.”

Freen smiled darkly. “Then I’ll burn with her.”

With one final warning glance, Kavin backed away, vanishing into the hallway like a ghost. Freen didn’t follow. Not yet.

Instead, she turned to Becky, voice rough.

"Tell me the truth. Did you come for me or the mission?"

Becky stepped closer, chest still heaving from the fight. She placed her palm flat against Freen’s cheek.

"I came for the mission…"

Freen’s jaw clenched.

"...but I stayed for you."

Silence. The kind that said everything.

Then Freen kissed her — rough, messy, angry. It wasn’t sweet. It was ownership.

And when their foreheads touched after, breath shallow, Freen whispered,

"If you ever lie to me again… I won’t hesitate."

Becky nodded.

“Then I guess I’ll just have to make you trust me.”

Outside, sirens began to rise. But inside, there were no more masks.

Only queens.

And blood on their hands.
