The Last Light In Vaelric's Heart
The Three Queens Part —3
The garden shimmered under the pale moonlight, petals of white roses glowing like scattered stars across the earth.
Vaelric strolled slowly through the path, his hand gently wrapped around Lysandra’s as they walked.
She laughed at something he said—a sound that always struck him like springtime thunder, sudden and vibrant. He couldn't help but smile as he watched her face tilt to the sky, carefree, the moonlight catching the golden strands of her hair.
Queen Lysandra
You always know exactly what to say to make me laugh 😂 (nudging him playfully)
King Vaelric
Only because I’ve made it my life’s duty to understand every part of you
Queen Lysandra
Even the parts I try to hide?😏
King Vaelric
Especially those.
Queen Lysandra
And what do you see in me, Vaelric?
Queen Lysandra
Why me, when you have two queens already waiting in the palace?
There was no hesitation. He reached up and brushed a loose curl from her cheek
King Vaelric
Because when I’m with you, I forget I’m a prince. I forget duty, politics, the weight of the crown
King Vaelric
You remind me I’m just a man.
Lysandra’s breath caught at his words, and for a long second, they simply stared at each other. Then slowly, carefully, she stepped forward and rested her head against his chest. He wrapped his arms around her, holding her with a tenderness that felt too real, too consuming
Queen Lysandra
I’m afraid (she whispered) Of what this means. Of how far I’ve already fallen
He pressed a kiss to the top of her head
King Vaelric
Then fall a little further with me🥰
From a distance—on the balcony overlooking the garden—Alira stood quietly. She leaned against the stone rail, her arms crossed gently over her chest
The smile on her lips was faint, but it held. Not bitterness. Not regret. Just acceptance. A flicker of something warm for him… and for her.
Behind her, footsteps echoed softly. Serilda approached, her dark eyes unreadable as she, too, looked down at the scene unfolding below.
Queen Serilda
She makes him smile
Queen Serilda
And you don’t mind?
Queen Alira
I was never meant to be loved by him
