Chapter 2 : Chains of blood

Jungkook sat in the hollow of an ancient tree, the bark rough against his skin, grounding him as the night deepened. Around him, the forest whispered secrets—some old as the earth, others dangerous and new.

His mind churned with the relentless weight of command.

Every breath he took was a reminder of the legacy he carried—the True Blood lineage, the Alpha who had come before, and the Alpha he was expected to be.

Control.

Strength.

Fear.

These were the tools of his reign.

But lately, the lines between protector and prisoner blurred.

His body hummed with restless power, a savage beast yearning to break free from invisible chains.

Yet, submission? Surrender? Those were weaknesses no Alpha admitted.

Still, something gnawed at him.

A question he dared not voice aloud.

What if the strength he believed in was a cage?

What if, to truly rule, he had to let go?

Jungkook’s hands clenched around a jagged stone, knuckles whitening. The weight of legacy pressed down, suffocating.

In the distance, the faint howl of a lone wolf echoed, raw and wild—reminding him of the primal nature he was born to command.

But inside, a quieter voice whispered, fragile and insistent.

There’s more than one way to wield power.

He closed his eyes, breath slow and measured.

He remembered the stories—ancient tales of Alphas who ruled not with iron, but with understanding.

Who bent but did not break.

Who gave and took in balance.

Could he be that Alpha?

Or was he doomed to the path carved by blood and dominance?

The forest around him seemed to pulse with life, every leaf and shadow alive with magic.

Jungkook felt the stirrings of something beyond control.

A force that called to him.

And he was scared.

Jungkook rose slowly from the earth, letting the stone fall from his hand. The air around him shimmered faintly, disturbed by the low thrum of his aura. True Blood power wasn’t just felt—it warped the space it touched.

He hated how people looked at him.

Like a god.

Like a monster.

Like something they feared but needed.

“Alpha,” a voice called from the trees, low and uncertain.

Jungkook turned, eyes cold and unreadable. One of the scouts emerged—Seokjin. Loyal. Smart. But always walking on eggshells around him.

“There’s movement near the southern border. Tracks. Not ours.”

Jungkook nodded, his tone clipped. “Send Namjoon to investigate. I want a full report by dawn.”

Seokjin hesitated. “And if it’s... them?”

The Others. The ones no one named. The beings from the old legends.

“If it’s them,” Jungkook said, his voice like steel drawn in moonlight, “tell Namjoon not to engage.”

He turned back to the cliffs, eyes scanning the darkness.

There was something out there. A whisper just beyond reach. It didn’t feel like a threat.

It felt like a promise.

And Jungkook didn’t know whether to chase it…

Or run from it.

The forest never slept.

Not in this part of the realm.

Jungkook walked the narrow trail leading away from the cliffs, deeper into the woods. His senses were sharp, alert. Every snapping twig, every shift of wind across his skin registered like a warning.

But it wasn’t danger that stirred his instincts tonight.

It was something else.

Something... pulling.

As though the earth itself reached for him, begging him to listen.

He followed the path until he reached the sacred grounds—a wide clearing surrounded by black stones etched with runes older than memory. The moonlight turned the carvings silver, their meanings long lost, but their power untouched.

Jungkook stepped into the center, dropping to one knee.

Not in prayer.

But in exhaustion.

“I’m not what they think I am,” he muttered.

The trees said nothing.

He clenched his jaw, every muscle drawn tight. He wasn’t raised to doubt. Doubt got Alphas killed. But still, something inside him whispered:

You are meant for more than this.

You were never meant to lead alone.

A sudden breeze twisted through the clearing, carrying a scent so faint he almost missed it—earth and thunder, ash and something... sweet.

It hit him in the chest.

His breath caught.

Every hair on his arms stood on end.

Jungkook whipped his head toward the wind’s direction, body tensed like a drawn bow.

But there was nothing there.

No figure in the trees. No sound.

Just that scent, clinging to the back of his throat like a name he hadn’t yet learned how to say.

A presence, intangible.

Unknown.

Unseen.

Unforgettable.

He stood slowly, every nerve alive with tension.

His power bristled beneath his skin. The wolf inside him stirred, confused—not by threat, but by curiosity. Hunger.

Longing.

And Jungkook hated it.

He didn’t want to need anything. Not when need made you vulnerable. Not when need could be ripped away.

He turned from the clearing, forcing his breathing back to steady.

Whatever was calling to him—it would wait.

It had to.

He was the Alpha.

He didn’t chase.

But as he disappeared into the trees, the scent followed.

And far, far away, violet eyes opened beneath moonlight for the first time in years.

The Enigma stirred.
