Knowing About Marriage
Aadhya and Arjun’s parents had been friends since their college days, so it was only natural that Aadhya and Arjun knew each other from a very young age.
Now Aadhya is 8 years old and Arjun is 10. As usual, they met over the weekend.
Drawing Room – Everyone is present
Aadhya (FL)
Let's play house!
Aadhya (FL)
I’ll be the wife, and Arjun will be the husband!
Arjun (ML)
I don’t want to play that.
Aadhya (FL)
Starts crying😭😭😭
ML mom
Aadhya, why do you want to play as a wife?
Aadhya (FL)
(Sniffles) Because... I’m going to be Arjun’s wife one day.
Everyone falls silent. Eyes widen. Shocked expressions all around
ML dad
Clears throat awkwardly
FL mom
(Soft laugh) Oh my...
ML mom
(Gently) But sweetheart… you both are still so young
Aadhya (FL)
(Innocently) I know. But when we grow up, I’ll marry him. I already decided.
Parents exchange surprised glances. No one knows what to say, but there's a smile forming on a few faces
Arjun (ML)
(Crosses arms) I won’t marry someone who pees on the bed at night…
Arjun (ML)
And never finishes her homework and always gets scolded by the teacher!
Everyone tries hard not to laugh. Aadhya looks shocked, then embarrassed
Aadhya (FL)
(Blushing) That was only one time!
FL grandmother
(Softly) Aadhya, Arjun—come here, both of you.
They walk over quietly. Everyone watches curiously
FL grandmother
Aadhya beta, do you even know what marriage means? What a husband and wife really are?
Aadhya (FL)
(Nods confidently) Yes, like mummy and daddy!
FL grandmother
Hmm. And what do mummy and daddy do?
Aadhya (FL)
(Serious tone) They sleep on the same bed… eat together…
Laughter fades as Aadhya’s Grandmother continues with a soft, wise tone
FL grandmother
Yes, beta… those are little parts of marriage.
FL grandmother
But remember—once you're married, it’s not just about sharing food or sleeping on the same bed.
You have to stay together your whole life, no matter what happens.
Aadhya and Arjun glance at each other, puzzled.
FL grandmother
When trouble comes, when things get hard—you don’t run away.
FL grandmother
You hold each other's hand and stay strong, together. That’s what real marriage is
FL grandmother
(Gently) Did you both understand?
Aadhya and Arjun look at each other, then shrug Not really…
FL grandmother
Smiling kindly That’s okay. One day, you will.
FL grandmother
Now go… play another game. Maybe something with less drama!
Everyone laughs. Aadhya and Arjun run off together, arguing over which game to play next. The room is filled with warm smiles.
