I like that the story has this realistic touch, because you can't expect someone to forget his/her previous spouse when their parting was not due to conflict. Understanding and accepting that that part of him/her was also an important portion of his life is what a mature relationship is supposed be.
Not that I was ever in a relationship, but this is common sense. I always found it unsettling that in some stories, the moment the main character becomes a part of a person's life, that person just magically forgets (maybe not forget, but deem them inferior in the face if the new one) all the good memories with his/her previous spouse whom they had no conflict with. Like, I get that the previous spouse may not be the love of his/her life, but respecting those memories is bare minimum.

Sorry for the long rant.
