Chapter 2 shadow don't sleep
Author
Welcome to my twisted little world.
This story dives into the blurred lines of obsession, control, and desire between two men caught in a dangerous psychological web. It's messy. It's toxic. It's not for the soft-hearted.
Contains mature themes, manipulation, and sm*t. Read at your own risk.

P.S. I know I probably should’ve given this intro back in Episode 1, but better late than never, right? Let’s just say I was too excited to throw you straight into the chaos.
Last night, Cheon Lin’s escape ended in the cold ocean—and Taehyung vanished into the mist, leaving only one message: “I have somewhere important to be.”
hae ri (tae unni)
Tae? Where are you? It’s late, I’m worried.
kim taehyung
I’m just on my way. I promise—I won’t be late this time. I’ll be there for your birthday.
hae ri (tae unni)
You always say that… but okay. I’ll wait. Just come safe, okay? I saved your favorite cake.
kim taehyung
[soft smile] I’ll be there. No matter what.
Call ended. Taehyung slips the phone into his pocket and walks off, eyes narrowing as he heads toward the station.
[Station PA Announcement – Distant, robotic voice]
“Passengers heading towards Seoul, please proceed to Platform No. 3. Train No. 3 departs in 10 minutes.”
[Scene – Inside the Train, Quiet Cabin]
Taehyung leans back in his seat, eyes fixed on the blurry landscape rushing past the window. The rhythmic clatter of the tracks fades as his mind slips into the past…
Flashback – Father's Voice (echoing):
“You boys take care of your mother and sister while I’m gone. Be strong, no matter what happens.”
That was the last time they saw him. News came in weeks later—KIA. Gone. Just like that.
His mother couldn’t bear it. Her heart gave out the same day they told her. And his older sister... she broke, silently. After that, she begged them never to follow the same path.
kim taehyung
(inner monologue):
But my brother didn’t listen. Just like any stubborn kid—he defied her and joined the navy.
Two months ago… he came back in a box.
Taehyung clenches his jaw, blinking fast to hold the emotions back.
kim taehyung
She still doesn’t know what I really do.
She thinks I work in tech.
But truth is—I’m with the National Korean Intelligence Service. And with everything that’s happened… she doesn’t need to know.
She’s already in therapy.
She’s barely holding on.
He looks out the window again, his reflection dark in the glass.
He can’t afford to slip. Not now. Not ever.
[Phone Rings]
Taehyung glances at his work phone. He considers ignoring it but knows he can't.
kim taehyung
(picks up the phone):
What is it, Chief? I’m on a train and can’t talk long.
Chief
You need to get to the office now, Tae.
kim taehyung
I told you, I’m already on my way—on a train. I can’t.
[Train PA Announcement – Static Noise]
“Attention passengers: We’re currently experiencing a technical issue. Please remain seated. The train will resume movement once the problem is resolved.”
kim taehyung
(frowning, hearing the announcement):
What the hell? We’re not moving.
Chief
Oh, I know. I made a few calls. The train won’t be moving until you get off.
kim taehyung
You’re really pulling that card now?
Chief
You know me. Now, get to the office. It’s urgent.
[Train Station – Taehyung Exits]
Taehyung steps off the train, the cold air hitting his face as he walks onto the platform. The train slowly pulls away, leaving him behind, but he doesn’t look back. His phone buzzes again.
Taehyung walks into the building, the familiar scent of paperwork and tension filling the air. The lobby is quiet, the usual buzz of people absent at this hour. He heads straight to the elevator.
[Elevator Ding – Office Floor]
Taehyung steps out of the elevator, his mind racing. The bodyguard, a tall figure, silently gestures for him to follow. But Tae frowns—this isn’t the usual procedure. Why is the bodyguard leading him instead of the Chief?
kim taehyung
(muttering to himself, confused):
Why didn’t the Chief call me? Why the hell is this bodyguard taking me to the Deputy Chief’s office?
He steps into the office, the door closing behind him with a soft click. The Deputy Chief stands by the window, his back turned, a man of few words. Taehyung doesn’t wait—he’s already on edge.
kim taehyung
(raising his voice slightly):
I did everything I could during the mission. You saw the report, Chief.
The Deputy Chief slowly turns around, his eyes cold, unreadable. He pauses for a moment before speaking, his voice calm but firm.
Deputy chief
You're not here for that, Taehyung.
Taehyung blinks, caught off guard. The Deputy Chief steps forward, his gaze sharpening.
Deputy chief
(coldly):
The commotion from your mission was an excuse. You’re being sent on a much more dangerous assignment. Right now.
(stunned):
What are you talking about?
Deputy chief
Russia. We have intel that’s too sensitive to leave to anyone else. You leave now.
The words hit Taehyung like a punch. His stomach tightens as he realizes the weight of what’s being asked of him.
[Deputy Chief’s Office – Tension in the Air]
Taehyung stands before the Deputy Chief, the weight of the mission pressing down on him. The room is heavy with the unspoken—both the importance of what he’s about to face and the danger that comes with it. The Deputy Chief’s voice breaks through the silence, sharp and commanding.
Deputy chief
(leaning forward, eyes intense):
Listen, Tae. This is not just another mission. We’ve received intel on a weapon—something that could change the course of history. A bomb, one that could obliterate everything if it falls into the wrong hands.
Deputy chief
(eyes narrowing):
Your job is simple—get the blueprint. Find it. Get it back to us, no matter the cost. It’s in Russia, and we have reason to believe it's hidden in the most secure facility. You'll need to infiltrate the place without drawing attention. Do whatever it takes.
kim taehyung
I’ll get it. No matter the cost.
Deputy chief
There’s one thing I need to make clear, Tae. You’re not just dealing with any enemy. This mission is dangerous, yes—but there’s a name you need to remember
Taehyung looks up at the Deputy Chief, waiting for him to continue. The words come out slowly, like a warning he has no choice but to heed.
Deputy chief
(leaning in, voice filled with warning):
Artem Volkov. He’s a Russian mafia psychopath, and he’s involved in this. If you cross him, you’re dead meat. No one survives a confrontation with him. He’s lethal, unpredictable. You’ll have to avoid him at all costs, understand?
The weight of the warning hits Taehyung like a punch to the gut. He knows the stakes are high, but now, they’ve just been raised. A psychopath like Volkov... there's no telling what he’s capable of. The fear isn't just in his hands—it’s in the very air Taehyung breathes
kim taehyung
Avoid Artem Volkov. Got it.
Deputy chief
Remember, Tae—this mission could change everything. Don’t let Volkov or anyone else get in your way. For the world’s sake, you have to succeed.
With a final nod, Taehyung turns and walks out of the office. The door closes behind him, leaving him standing in the hallway, the weight of his task sinking in. The blueprint. The bomb. Artem Volkov. Everything is intertwined in a web of danger, and he’s at the center of it all.
Taehyung takes a deep breath, looking ahead. There’s no going back now.
