A guttural SKREEEEEHHHHKK! tore through the fog-thick air as the beast lunged forward, a mountain of rotted wood and writhing vines. Its glowing green eyes locked onto Minji, and with a single, thunderous step, it closed the distance in a heartbeat.
She threw herself to the side just as Viregoth’s clawed limb came crashing down, splintering the earth like brittle bone. Mud and moss exploded upward, the scent of rot thick enough to choke her lungs.

THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT FAIR!
Minji's scream was swallowed by the deafening SKREEEEHHHKK as Viregoth hurled itself at her again, a tidal wave of moss-covered fury and claws.
[Skill: Shadow bind activated]
Shadows surged from beneath her feet, crawling like black vines toward the monster. They wrapped around Viregoth’s limbs, tugging it to a jarring stop mid-charge.
For one glorious second—it held.
The shadows snapped apart like brittle glass, and a looming weight crushed the air around her. The monster’s immense form rose once more—its twisted, bark-like limbs creaking as it broke free
Its shadow fell over her like a stormcloud.
Minji looked up, frozen in place.
Her legs wouldn't move. Her breath caught halfway through her throat.
Viregoth’s eyes glowed brighter now, locked onto her like a predator that knew its prey had run out of tricks.

The time suddenly seemed slower
the notification popped up again

The air dropped ten degrees.
The shadows at Minji’s feet twisted violently, no longer vines—but jaws.
They opened wide, impossibly wide, and latched onto Viregoth's towering form with an eerie silence. There was no roar. No scream. Just the sound of tearing—like flesh, bark, and soul being pulled apart.
The creature's body convulsed.
Chunks of moss and wood disintegrated into black particles, sucked downward into the gaping shadow. The vines writhed and tightened, dragging it inch by inch into the abyss forming beneath Minji.
Its screech was strangled as its limbs vanished. Its torso twisted unnaturally. Glowing green eyes widened in pure terror—and then were gone.
In seconds, Viregoth had been erased.

Minji suddenly felt sick to the stomach.
It hit her like a crashing wave—nausea, dizziness, wrongness. Her body trembled uncontrollably, her insides twisted in revolt.
[CONSEQUENCES FOR USING GLUTTONY ON AN ENEMY FAR ABOVE YOUR LEVEL]

She gagged. Blood hit the dirt as her vision spun and collapsed inward. Her limbs twitched violently. Her heart thrashed in her chest—fast, then too slow, like it didn’t know if it should keep beating.
And then came the real pain.
Like teeth. Inside her soul.
Her scream broke into a choking gasp as something invisible bit down deep inside her. Not her body—something worse. Her self. Her name. Her memories. Who she was.
She looked down at her trembling hands, as if trying to remember herself. Trying not to lose herself.
