As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden hue over the park, Maya sat on a weathered wooden bench, her heart racing.
The laughter of children playing nearby filled the air, but all she could hear was the thudding of her own heart.
It was a beautiful day, yet she felt a storm brewing inside her. She glanced at Julian, who was tossing a frisbee with their friends, effortlessly charming everyone around him. He had no idea of the turmoil brewing within her.

Hey, Maya! You coming?
Julian called out, his voice bright and inviting.
She forced a smile and nodded, but her mind was elsewhere. How could she tell him? The fear of losing their friendship was a weight she carried every day. What if he didn’t feel the same? What if everything changed?
As the evening wore on, the group settled down for a picnic.

He gestured to their friends, who were laughing and enjoying the food.

She said, her heart sinking. If only he knew that her thoughts were consumed by him.
