I run down the hill and try to go to her house without falling in the many bushes on my way. I ring the doorbell, but there's no answer. I go by the window to see if it was her I saw. Just before she could possibly see me, she closes her room's door. I don't know what's happening.
"Felicia! It's me!" I scream by her window.
She comes and open it up so I could come in.
"Hurry! How did you get here?" Felicia answers, worried.
"What's happening? Where's your family?" I ask.
"They took them! I hid in my closet and before I knew, my parents and brother were gone. They take every survivor. Everyone that doesn't want to go in that stupid ship." Felicia falls in tears in front of me.
"Who's they?" I question.
"Don't you know? The witnesses! Their jobs are to take anybody left on the planet. If they see you, they will report to the authorities and they will send you to that stupid ship." she said.
"How do you know all that?" I ask still looking at Felicia cry.
"My parents were friends with people who were turned into witnesses. During a short lucidity time, they told my mother their superiors could do anything with them as soon as they were converted to witnesses." Felicia informed me, a last tear falling on her cheek.
"So you don't choose to be a witness?" I asked before hearing a weird thudding against the door.
"Come!" Felicia pulled my arm in her closet, where was a red button to activate the closet, like every closet today.
"Follow my orders, well, my father told me to follow them, so follow them with me." Felicia ordered.
I agreed.
"The red button doesn't activate the closet, as you probably thought. It opens a tunnel to Asia. As you know, in Asia, the evacuation was due two days ago, so we should be okay." Felicia explained.
"Are you sure about this?" I try to ask.
But before she could answer, the witnesses banged the door opened. Before she could even think, Felicia pressed the button. The ground disappeared under their feet and the were in a tunnel gallery. I found a message, handwrote. I never learned to write with my hands but Felicia did. She read the message.
"Dear daughter,
This is an old tunnel gallery standing here since 2361. It might seem long, but it's our ancestors' work. If you're here, it's because, somehow, you're in danger. You should know that my long away grandfather wasn't only to build this thing. 2361 is the year our family started building those tunnels. We finished in 2890. We reinforced everything. From ceilings to passage openers, almost everything's new from this cycle. I even told you those rails were for a high speed train to Asia, but once in the train, you'll have to choose your destination. In the rock you'll find a big box, with laser guns, sniper guns and just revolvers. I wish you luck, whatever your going away for.
Kisses,
Your father." Felicia read.
She thought she was going to cry, but took her madness as courage. We found shovels near where the paper had been left. We started to dig in the wall's door until we hit something hard. It was the box. We got it out of the wall and opened it. Felicia's father promised many guns, but there were only three. In the box, I found another paper.
"What did you think? I would never give you so many weapons. These are transforming guns. One for each of your possible friends accompanying you." Felicia restarted reading after I gave her the paper. Couldn't he write on a computer?
We took two guns and put the box in the wall to hide them from possible enemies. We turned around and saw the dark tunnels. The train arrived without a single sound. It wasn't touching the rails. It was floating by magnetic forces in the rails. I thought it was the minimum, but not just that, it's very quiet for a train. We went in and commanded Asia as destination. He train left slowly, but took speed very fast. Soon, they would be safe. As they hoped.
