the shadow market (2)
Stephan leans forward slightly, his gaze hardening. He knows exactly what he's doing, and this situation, strange as it is, seems to amuse him more and more.
père de lucas (stephan)
(with a hint of malice in his voice) Lucas… He doesn't have your strength, Demon. Do you think he can resist you? A man like you... with such high pheromone levels. An omega like Lucas wouldn't even last a week. And anyway, I don't see how that could bother you. After all, if you want Lucas, I'd be happy to give him up to you. You see, I don't think much of him. If you want him to be of any use, well, go away, Demon.
A heavy silence falls. Demon remains silent for a moment, the menacing tone of his previous laughter gone. What follows is a pause, the atmosphere becoming more tense.
Demon (Pdg et mafieux)
(in a more serious, but just as menacing voice)
You think he's useless, huh, Stephan? Believe me, Lucas has much more use than you think. All you see is a fragile boy. But he's much more than that. And you know it. If you want to get rid of him so easily, I promise you'll regret it. I'm going to make him my *omega*, and he'll know exactly what he represents in my world.
Stephan straightens and turns his head slightly toward the window. The wind blowing gently outside seems to stir a cold breeze. But his thoughts are intense. After all, he never truly loved his son. If Lucas disappeared into this dark and dangerous world, it would be a liberation, a way to get rid of this burden he didn't want. Yet, a part of him, a small corner of his mind, worries.
père de lucas (stephan)
(in a slightly calmer, almost detached tone)
So, you want Lucas? Very well. You'll have him. But don't think it won't cost you anything. I'm not a man to be pushed around. You'll have him, but remember: even an omega can meet an end, even under your power. Keep that in mind, Demon.
Demon (Pdg et mafieux)
(with a mischievous smile, as if he'd just won a victory)
I know exactly what I'm doing, Stephan. And you also know I never lose. I'll be back for Lucas shortly. Prepare to hand him over to me. And say goodbye for me... this might be the last time he'll have a chance to be a free man.
The phone abruptly cuts off, leaving Stephan alone in his office, his gaze even harder, colder than ever. He sinks into his chair, his mind filled with dark, conflicting thoughts. He's given his son to a man as powerful and dangerous as Demon... but at what cost?
Stephan begins to realize the magnitude of his decision. Perhaps this sacrifice wasn't as easy as he thought.
