Unravelling Desire

The air between them was heavy, charged with an unfamiliar tension. Eva lay beneath Aaron, her breath uneven, her chest rising and falling as his fingers traced slow, hesitant patterns along her waist. A warmth spread from his touch, seeping into her skin, igniting something she didn’t understand.

She had never felt like this before. Never wanted to.

Eva had spent lifetimes guiding souls, existing between worlds, untouchable and untouched. The concept of romance—of desire—had always felt distant, like something meant for others but not for her. She had never been drawn to it, never yearned for it. But now, as Aaron hovered over her, his golden eyes dark with something unspoken, she felt a pull so deep it made her dizzy.

Aaron wasn’t any better.

He had never been interested in empty affections or meaningless touches. He had never kissed anyone before—never even thought about it. To him, love, passion, and intimacy were distractions, illusions crafted to ensnare the weak. Yet here he was, drawn to Eva like a moth to a flame, unable to look away.

His fingers curled into the fabric of his suit jacket, his body hovering mere inches from hers. The scent of her—something soft, warm, and intoxicating—wrapped around him, making it impossible to think.

His voice was hoarse when he spoke. “Eva… if you keep looking at me like that, I won’t be able to stop.”

A flicker of something—curiosity, defiance, longing—flashed in her gaze. “Then don’t.”

Aaron’s breath caught. His heart pounded against his ribs, foreign and unsteady. He had always been in control. Always dictated the course of his own actions. But now? He felt utterly powerless.

Hesitantly, he raised a trembling hand to cup her cheek. His touch was featherlight, almost as if he were afraid she would vanish beneath him. Her skin was warm, softer than he expected.

Eva didn’t move. Didn’t pull away.

Slowly, cautiously, Aaron leaned in.

The moment their lips met, something inside both of them shattered.

It was soft at first. Uncertain. Neither of them knew what they were doing, yet neither wanted to stop. Aaron pressed against her tentatively, as if trying to memorize the feel of her lips. Eva, equally inexperienced, followed his lead, letting her fingers tangle in his hair as if urging him closer.

A low hum of pleasure rumbled in his chest, and suddenly, hesitation no longer existed.

His hands gripped her waist, pulling her against him as the kiss deepened. His lips moved against hers with growing urgency, no longer tentative but hungry—desperate. The fire that had been simmering between them erupted into an inferno, consuming them both.

Eva clung to him, her body responding in ways she had never imagined. Heat coiled low in her stomach, her breath coming in ragged gasps between kisses. It was overwhelming—new and unfamiliar, yet she didn’t want it to stop.

Neither of them did.

Then, just as Aaron’s lips brushed the curve of her jaw, just as Eva’s hands clenched against his back, her phone vibrated loudly against the nightstand.

The sudden noise jolted them both back to reality.

Eva’s eyes fluttered open, her heart still hammering in her chest. For a moment, neither of them moved, their breaths mingling, bodies still tangled together.

Then, with a shaky exhale, she reached for her phone.

Stephy.

Aaron pulled back slightly, his expression unreadable. His breathing was uneven, his hands still resting on her waist. He looked at her—really looked at her—before reluctantly moving away.

Eva swallowed, her fingers tightening around the phone as she answered. “Stephy?”

“Where the hell are you?” Stephy’s voice was tinged with worry. “We’ve been looking for you two for ages!”

Eva cast a quick glance at Aaron, who was already sitting up, adjusting his suit. The moment between them had shattered, yet the air still crackled with unspoken emotions.

“We’ll be back soon,” Eva assured, her voice steadier than she felt.

As she hung up, silence stretched between them.

Aaron stood, running a hand through his hair, his jaw clenched. Eva, still seated on the edge of the bed, glanced up at him, her lips tingling, her mind reeling.

Neither of them spoke of what had just happened.

They couldn’t.

Instead, they left the suite, walking back toward the ballroom in silence. Every brush of their hands, every stolen glance, carried the weight of something unresolved.

Back in the hall, their friends swarmed them with questions.

“Where did you guys run off to?” Henry smirked, eyes flickering between them with suspicion. “Thought you hated parties, man.”

Aaron forced a smirk, slipping back into his usual demeanor. “Needed some fresh air.”

Eva let out a light laugh, though her fingers trembled as she tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear. “Yeah. Just some air.”

“Some air?” Anna arched a brow. “You were gone for a while.”

“It was nothing,” Eva said quickly.

But the knowing looks exchanged between their friends told her they weren’t fooled.

Aaron’s Thoughts After Parting Ways

Aaron gripped the steering wheel, his breath uneven, his entire body taut with something he couldn’t name. His pulse hammered against his ribs, his skin still tingling from Eva’s touch.

His first kiss.

His first real moment of weakness.

A bitter chuckle escaped his lips. Weakness? Is that what this is?

No, this was something else. Something darker, more dangerous.

Something that had always been inside him.

The thing that never let him rest. The thing that clawed at his control, whispered in his mind, You are not meant to be restrained.

Lucifer.

He had spent his entire life balancing on a tightrope, pretending to be normal, pretending that the fire within him could be tamed. But tonight, with Eva in his arms, that illusion shattered.

That kiss—it wasn’t a mistake.

It was a beginning.

A reminder.

He slammed a fist against the dashboard, his jaw tightening as the whispering in his mind grew louder. You are not meant to obey human emotions. You are meant to rule them.

His fingers trembled slightly. Not from fear, not from regret.

From the terrifying truth that he wasn’t sure if he wanted to fight it anymore.

David’s Arrival in Eva’s Room

Eva sat in the dim glow of her bedside lamp, her thoughts tangled in a storm she couldn’t escape. Her fingers brushed against her lips, remembering the heat, the pressure, the way Aaron had held her as if he knew her.

As if they had done this before.

A flicker of movement.

She didn’t hear the door open. Didn’t feel a shift in the air.

Yet suddenly, she was not alone.

“You’re quiet tonight.”

Eva didn’t startle. She knew that voice.

David stood by her desk, leaning against it with casual ease, but his dark eyes were sharp, studying her as if he could see through her.

She sighed. “You really need to stop doing that.”

He smirked. “You say that every time.”

She turned away, staring out the window. “What do you want?”

He didn’t answer immediately. Then, after a pause, he said, “You forgot, didn’t you?”

Eva frowned, glancing at him. “Forgot what?”

His expression didn’t change, but something in the room seemed to shift.

“Tomorrow.”

A chill ran down her spine.

The new moon.

The night when the veil between worlds thinned. The night when whispers in the dark would become louder. The night when she would feel the pull toward something she shouldn’t.

Her breath caught. How did I forget?

David’s gaze didn’t waver. “You’ve never forgotten before.”

Eva clenched her fists. She didn’t have an answer.

His smirk faded, his voice softer now. “You’re distracted.”

She hated the way he said it, as if he already knew the reason.

She didn’t reply.

David watched her for a long moment before speaking again, his tone unreadable. “Tomorrow, everything changes.”

Eva swallowed hard.

It already has.
