Turbulence in the Air

*Zane walks through the busy terminal beside his father, pulling his suitcase behind him with sluggish steps. His mood is grim, his jaw tight.*

Zane

(thinking): "Of all the ways this week could’ve gone… it had to be this."

Father

"Hurry up, Zane. The flight doesn’t wait for emotions."

Zane

*"Yeah. I’m aware."

*He rolls his eyes, still dragging his feet.*

*Zane sits by the window seat, arms folded, head leaned back against the seat. His face is pale, and sweat is starting to form on his forehead.*

Zane

(groaning): "Ugh… I feel like I’m gonna puke…"

Father

(reading a business file): "You’re not used to flying, are you?"

Zane

(mumbling): *"Nope… and I don’t wanna get used to it either."

*He covers his mouth, trying not to gag as the turbulence hits.*

*A flight attendant walks by.*

Flight attendant

"Sir, are you alright? You don’t look so good."

Zane

*"Do I look alright to you?"

*He groans again and slumps lower in the seat.*

Flight attendant

(smiling politely): "Let me bring you a bag, just in case."

*Zane glares at his father, who remains unbothered.*

Zane

"You better not expect me to smile and play nice with this guy when I land."

Father

"I don’t care if you smile. I just care that you marry him."

Zane

(muttering): "I hate this family..."

Zane

(thinking) – looking out the window weakly: "Why him? Out of all people... why did it have to be Vincent freaking Alexandrov?"

*He closes his eyes, the hum of the airplane lulling him into an uncomfortable, motion-sick daze.*
