The Cursed Villainess and the Tyrant Duke
Episode 13: Unseen Shadows
The grand palace corridor, dimly lit by golden sconces. Evelina walks briskly, her heels clicking against the marble floor. The weight of her conversation with Duke Moraine lingers in her mind, but something else unsettles her—an eerie feeling that she’s being watched.
Evelina Everhart
*In mind*Why do I feel like someone’s following me?
She quickens her pace, her gown flowing behind her. The long hallway stretches endlessly, the flickering candlelight casting distorted shadows on the walls. Just as she rounds a corner—
Suddenly, a hand grabs her wrist. She gasps, instinctively reaching for the dagger strapped beneath her sleeve, but before she can react—
Valerius Draven
(lowly) Now, now, is that how you greet an old friend?
She exhales sharply as she looks up to find Valerius smirking down at her, his dark eyes gleaming with amusement.
Evelina Everhart
(glaring) Unhand me, Duke Draven.
His fingers loosen, but he doesn’t step away. Instead, he leans in, his voice a whisper against her ear.
Valerius Draven
(softly) You seem nervous, my lady. Did Duke Moraine say something to upset you?
Evelina stiffens, masking her emotions behind a cold expression.
Evelina Everhart
That is none of your concern.
Valerius chuckles, his hand brushing a loose strand of hair from her face, his touch lingering just long enough to make her breath hitch.
Valerius Draven
(teasing) Everything about you is my concern.
Evelina Everhart
*In mind*Why does he keep doing this? And why does my body react every time he gets close?
She pulls back, crossing her arms.
Evelina Everhart
If you’re here to waste my time, Duke, I suggest you find another pastime.
He tilts his head, observing her with an unreadable expression before stepping aside, granting her space to walk past.
Valerius Draven
(smirking) Very well. But be careful, Evelina. The palace walls have ears, and not all of them are friendly.
Evelina meets his gaze, trying to decipher the hidden meaning behind his words. Then, without another word, she turns and walks away, her heart hammering in her chest.
Behind her, Valerius watches her retreating figure, his smirk fading into something more thoughtful.
Valerius Draven
(softly) Let’s see how long you can keep up this act, my lady.
