Office Hierarchy
The clicking of keyboards fills the air, blending with the occasional frustrated sigh. A digital clock on the wall reads 9:42 AM.
The office hums with the usual sounds of productivity—or, in Taehyung’s case, barely suppressed rage.
TAEHYUNG, dressed in his usual work attire—slightly wrinkled but still looking atrociously beautiful —sits hunched over his dual monitors. His expression is one of pure suffering, eyes darting between lines of nightmarishly complex code.
A critical backend update was due today, and—like always—he was the one expected to fix everyone else’s mistakes.
The screen flashes:
[ERROR: Unexpected Token in JSON at Position 44]
He groans, running a hand through his hair.
Kim Taehyung
*Muttering to himself*
Great. Another mystery for Detective Kim to solve.
Across the office, his coworker, a guy with thick glasses and an endless supply of Red Bull, peeks over his monitor.
Kim Seok-jin
Hey, Tae. If you're done talking to yourself, the manager wants that API fix before lunch.
Kim Taehyung
Yeah, yeah. Tell him he’ll get it when I get my will to live back.
His coworker snorts but says nothing.
Taehyung’s inbox pings. Another urgent request.
He rubs his temples, staring at his monitor like it personally offended him. Being a software developer was supposed to be cool, right? Instead, it felt like an endless battle against bugs that seemed to multiply like bacteria the second you fixed one.
Suddenly, a notification pops up on the company’s Slack channel.
Taehyung freezes. His stomach drops.
Kim Taehyung
*in thoughts* 'Daejun? The guy who barely knew the difference between a for-loop and a while-loop?'
Taehyung whips his head around, spotting DAEJUN—his boss’s nephew—leaning back in his chair, grinning like he just won the lottery. His screen is dark—because, of course, he wasn’t working.
Kim Seok-jin
*whispers to Taehyung, equally baffled*
Wait… didn’t you apply for that position?
Kim Taehyung
*jaw clenched*
Yeah.
He stares at the company-wide announcement, fists tightening. He had outperformed everyone in the department, pulled countless all-nighters, and debugged Daejun’s broken code more times than he could count.
His manager, MR. SHIM, walks into the room, clapping Daejun on the shoulder.
Mr. Shim
Big things ahead for you, Daejun! You’ve got a bright future in this company.
Daejun laughs, clearly not feeling guilty in the slightest.
Park Daejun
Thanks, uncle. I mean—sir.
Taehyung bites the inside of his cheek so hard it nearly draws blood.
Kim Taehyung
*thoughts* 'Right. Because talent and hard work mean nothing when your boss’s nephew wants the job.'
He wants to say something. Call out the injustice. Demand an explanation.
If he complains, he’s replaceable.
If he stays quiet, he’s just another pawn.
He swallows his pride and forces himself to keep typing.
