Everyone is shocked, so is Veyna herself. She swallowed her own saliva at the sight.
"Oh n-no... I m sorry, Evelyne."
She quickly apologised but it couldn't reach Evelyne's ears as the crowd immediately began throwing harsh words at Veyna.
"Does she hate Lady Evelyne so much?!"
"Lady Evelyne was just being nice!"
"What a shameful evil woman!"
The crowd's voices feels like a dark shadow pulling her deep into a dark pit. It is suffocating.
"I didn't mean it! I m so- "
She tries to reach for Evelyne's arm to make her hear the apology in attempt to ease the situation.
But before Veyna could react, a man dressed in formal attire swiftly pulls Evelyne into his arms, shielding her as if protecting her from Veyna's mere touch.
It is her fiancé, Aaron, the third prince. His sharp gaze bore into Veyna, filled with nothing but disdain.
At that moment, she knows. It is all pointless. She is the villain here, the unwanted presence, the bad guy in their story.
"No one genuinely cares for a bad woman like you."
Edric's words echoed in her mind. And he was right.
In a grand ballroom filled with people, not a single soul stood by her side. She was utterly alone.
The darkness in Veyna's heart grows larger, swallowing every last trace of warmth.
Is this what people call fate?
Why is it so cruel to me?
The murmurs of the crowd clash with the voices in her mind, a chaotic symphony of judgment and doubt. It was suffocating, sinking into her bones, unraveling her sanity, little by little.
And she couldn't take it anymore.
"SHUT UP!"
Her voice cut through the ballroom like a whip, silencing the chatter in an instant. Eyes widened, gasps filled the air, and all attention snapped back to her.
But Veyna doesn't care. Not anymore.
"Shut your disgusting mouths. Your disgusting voices."
Her words dripped with venom, her glare sharp enough to cut through the thick silence that followed.
The crowd stood frozen, stunned by the outburst. Some exchanged uneasy glances but Veyna doesn't falter. If they wanted a villain, she would give them one.
She turns her gaze to Evelyne, her eyes burning with unfiltered rage, and pointed directly at her.
"Don't give me that bullshit kindness. Don't try to belittle me with your fake-ass generosity. I am done. So done with all of this."
Gasps ripple through the crowd, the weight of her words sinking into the stunned silence. Evelyne's face paled, her lips parting as if to respond, but no words came out.
Veyna had held her tongue for too long. Tonight, she is done playing their game. Her heart had already frozen, along with her emotions and sanity.
She opens her mouth, ready to lash out even more, but before she could, a firm arm wrapped around her shoulders, and a hand pressed over her mouth.
She knew immediately who it was Wayne, her only cousin.
"Ah... Everyone, I'm so sorry for all of this chaos," Wayne said, his voice laced with forced politeness. "My cousin must not be feeling so well. I apologize on her behalf. We- uh- we'll be taking our leave now."
His nervous smile did little to hide the tension in his grip. His fingers dig painfully into her shoulder, a silent warning to stay quiet.
Veyna tries to push Wayne away. She still has so much left to say to those ugly, horrendous people. But she is too weak, the pain in her chest is squeezing the life out of her, draining every last ounce of strength.
Her body gives in, collapsing into Wayne's arms.
From the corner of her vision, she caught sight of someone watching her. The first prince. He stood not far away, his gaze locked onto her, a smug expression plastered across his face.
Amusement dances in his eyes, as if her suffering is nothing more than an entertaining spectacle.
She hates it. She hates him.
She hates all of them.
She hates everything.
Also watching the scene from afar were Edric and Ian.
Edric stood with his arms crossed over his chest, his usual smirk absent. His expression was unreadable, but there was no amusement in his eyes-only something far more complicated.
Ian, beside him, remained silent, his gaze flickering between Veyna and the rest of the room. The tension in the air was suffocating, yet neither of them moved. They simply watched.
The villainess's outburst. A moment of disgrace.
However, it wasn't as satisfying as they thought.
