Written On Her Skin(On Hold)

Not that I expect grand gestures
But even the small things brushing hands , a lingering glance
A moment that feels like it just belongs to us
In the office, Aarav and I walked by side by toward the elevator
The silence between us was oddly comforting , the kind that only exists between people who understand each other
Aadhya Sharma
(smiling) you know , we never really go out of work . How about a dinner date this weekend ?
Aarav Oberoi
(glanced at her , expressions unreadable )
Aarav Oberoi
Sure if I am not too busy
That was always his answer. If he’s not too busy. If he’s not caught up with work. If he’s not preoccupied with something more important than me.
Aadhya Sharma
(smiled anyway)
Pretending it didn't bother me
As we reached the elevator
Aadhya Sharma
(hesitated before softly reaching for his hand )
just to hold it . Just for a moment
Aarav Oberoi
(pulled out his phone )
Completely unaware of the gesture or ignoring it
Aarav Oberoi
(scrolling through messages)
Aarav Oberoi
let's see if we can manage this weekend
The elevator doors opened, and he stepped in first, leaving a gap between us that felt wider than the entire floor separating us from the ground.
Aadhya Sharma
( blink, shaking off the memory)
Aadhya Sharma
(it shouldn't bother me )
Aadhya Sharma
(not every relationship has to be filled with touch and affection )
Aadhya Sharma
(maybe Aarav is just not that kind of person)
Aadhya Sharma
(but why does it feel like he was just ...tolerating me?)
