Hael Zagreus had long since abandoned the idea of innocence. In his world, purity was a myth, a fleeting illusion crushed under the weight of bloodshed and power.
He had clawed his way to the top of the city’s underworld, built an empire on fear, and ensured that no one could challenge his reign.
He had seen everything—the cruel, the desperate, the damned. Yet, nothing could have prepared him for the moment he first laid eyes on her.
It was supposed to be just another business meeting. Hael sat in the dimly lit VIP lounge of an upscale restaurant, an untouched glass of red wine on the table beside him.
Across from him, his negotiator droned on about territories, deals, and betrayals. It was all routine, nothing he hadn’t heard a thousand times before.
But then, in the middle of the conversation, his gaze drifted toward the large window that overlooked the bustling city streets below.
And that was when he saw her.
A girl—young, vibrant, untouched by the corruption that tainted everything around him. She was laughing with her friends, her voice lost in the city’s chaos, but her joy radiated so clearly that Hael felt it from where he sat.
The golden afternoon light framed her in a way that made her look almost ethereal, as if she didn’t belong in this grim world. Her uniform marked her as a high school student—just another ordinary girl in the sea of people below.
But to Hael, she was anything but ordinary.
His heartbeat slowed, then quickened. A strange sensation twisted in his chest, something unrecognizable—an emotion he hadn't felt in years. Fascination. Curiosity. An obsession waiting to be born.
He straightened in his chair, his cold green eyes locked onto her as she continued walking toward the gates of her school, completely oblivious to the predator watching from above.

*Hael's voice cut through his negotiator’s rambling.* “I want everything about her.”

*The man across from him blinked in confusion.* “Who?”

*Hael didn’t take his eyes off the girl.* “The one in the school uniform. Find out her name, her schedule, her family, where she lives, what she likes—everything.”
His tone was low, controlled, but there was an unmistakable command in it. His men knew better than to question him. The negotiator hesitated only for a second before nodding. “Understood.”
Hael leaned back, exhaling slowly as he watched her disappear beyond the school gates.
Anya. He didn’t know her name yet, but soon, he would.
She had no idea that her life had just changed.
Anya adjusted the strap of her bag as she walked through the school gates, completely unaware of the storm brewing in the shadows. The familiar hum of students chatting and cars honking in the distance filled the air. It was a normal day, like any other.
Or at least, it should have been.
She felt a strange chill run down her spine, as if someone was watching her. She paused, glancing around, but saw nothing out of the ordinary—just students rushing to class and teachers greeting them at the entrance. Shaking off the unease, she forced a smile and quickened her steps.
If only she had realized that, from this moment on, her every move would be watched. That the most dangerous man in the city had just set his sights on her.
And that he would stop at nothing to make her his.
