With Rahim leading the way, the group set off into the night, the horses' hooves pounding against the rocky terrain. Mandakini rode in silence, her heart heavy with worry for her family.
As they climbed higher, the temperature dropped, and the wind picked up, whipping her hair across her face.
Mandakini pulled her cloak tighter, her eyes fixed on Rahim's back as he guided them through the treacherous mountain path.
Suddenly, he reined in his horse and raised a hand, signaling for the group to stop. He listened intently, then turned to them, his face grave.

"I hear horses approaching rapidly from behind. We must find cover quickly."
Without hesitation, he led them off the path, pressing deeper into a dense thicket of evergreen bushes. Mandakini slid off her horse, clutching its reins tightly.
The sound of hooves grew louder, echoing ominously through the mountains. Mandakini's heart pounded in her chest as she peeked through the bushes.
A group of horsemen appeared, their turbans and armor glinting in the moonlight. Mandakini recognized the Mughal insignia on their uniforms.
As Rahim sat down nearby, Mandakini's thoughts swirled with anger and frustration. She was a Rajput princess, descended from a long line of warriors.
How could she cower in hiding while her people fought and died? The more she thought about it, the more her heart pounded with determination.
