"Which school are you from, Samuel?"
What? He looks surprised that I am talking to him? Lily thought.
"XX school" he replied, regaining his usual aloofness.
"Why did you transfer?"
"Dad's job."
"Do you like it here?"
"Yes, I'm getting used to this place."
If Lily thought such a conversation which was more of an interview, brought them any closer, she was so wrong because Samuel didn't talk to her in class at all. He did not even look at her unless she came in his line of vision.
It's alright. Patience is the key, Lily cried to herself.
During group project time, Samuel got paired up with some boy. During the class trip, he obviously sat with his friends and did not even notice Lily no matter howsoever attractive clothing she wore and during the cultural festival preparations, they were working on different projects.
HOW DOES IT HAPPEN IN MANGA?!?! Lily screamed in her head. I had high hopes for the time spent during the cultural festival at least! She wept in her head, dragging herself to the art storage room to store away the extra decorative paper.
As she was putting the papers in their respective racks, someone walked into the room and Lily turned around to see who it was. Samuel.
Lily's heart began beating a little faster and she turned around quickly to continue her work. Instead of trying to carry out some awkward conversation, it was better she did her work.
"Where do I keep the glue and the scissors?" he asked her.
Lily turned around to face him, completely surprised and super pleased that he talked to her.
"In the drawer of the desk," Lily pointed.
He nodded and walked towards the desk.
What am I even getting so happy for? Lily silently laughed to herself. This is the part where the the male and female leads get locked in the room, she thought. Like it will ever happen here, she pretended to wipe a tear after making sure he wasn't looking.
Just then another student from their class came to the room: Natasha. "Lily, where are the tapes and glues?" Before Lily could reply, Samuel said, "Here."
Lily whirled around. That was such a quick response. His face was still straight. Did he like Natasha? She involuntarily felt a little upset. What on earth? I'm getting upset for nothing. Yet she could not stop herself from feeling sad.
"Oh, I need them," Natasha said as she walked towards Samuel to get them. Just then some boys shouted outside, probably playing around, chasing each other. One of them almost ran into the open door and the door to the art storage room closed with a loud noise. "Ugh" Lily grumbled, walking quickly to open the door.
"Ow, that hurt my ears," Natasha complained.
Lily wanted to get out of there. She did not want to get irritated at Natasha but she was and she hated herself for getting irritated. And now these boys were playing around, making so much noise. Their voices receded as they ran away, chasing and fighting with each other.
Lily turned the door knob and tried pushing the the door open but it did not budge. "Huh?" Lily was surprised.
"We're locked in here," she announced, turning around to face the two of them.
