Ryu's gaze moved from face to face, lingering just long enough to make each person feel seen. Then his eyes found Kai.

Kai’s chest tightened as their gazes locked, the weight of Ryu’s stare pressing against him like a physical force. His mind screamed at him to look away, but his body betrayed him.
