Chapter 20: The Nexus Tower

The group reached the base of the crumbling tower as the last of the void constructs dissolved into the sand. The air around them was thick with tension, each breath heavy with the void’s oppressive presence. The tower loomed above, its jagged edges slicing into the hazy sky.

Selene gripped the shard tightly, its faint glow pulsating like a heartbeat. "The nexus is at the top. I can feel it."

Aldric wiped the sweat from his brow and glanced at the others. "We’ve made it this far. Let’s finish this."

As they reached the midway point of the tower, a massive door barred their path. It was covered in intricate glyphs, glowing faintly with the void’s energy.

"It’s sealed," Elara said, running her fingers over the glyphs.

Kael stepped forward, examining the symbols. "This isn’t just a seal—it’s a guardian spell. Breaking it will summon something... unpleasant."

"It knows we’re here," Selene said, stepping back.

"The warden," Kael muttered.

The creature roared, shaking the entire tower.

The warden attacked with relentless fury, its massive fists crashing down with enough force to crack the stone floor.

With the warden defeated, the group ascended the final staircase. At the top of the tower was the nexus chamber—a vast, circular room with a swirling vortex of dark energy at its center.

The void’s power was overwhelming, pressing down on them like a physical weight.

"This is it," Selene said, stepping forward. "The nexus."

Kael’s expression was grim. "Destroying this one won’t be as simple as the last. The void has fortified it."

Elara looked at Selene, her eyes filled with concern. "Are you ready for this?"

Selene nodded, though her hands trembled. "We don’t have a choice."

The room erupted in light, a brilliant explosion that shattered the nexus and sent waves of energy rippling outward. The tower trembled, cracks spreading through the walls and floor.

"Get out!" Kael shouted.

The group raced down the stairs as the tower began to collapse. The void’s presence weakened with each passing moment, the oppressive weight lifting as they fled.

They burst out into the open desert just as the tower crumbled behind them, a cloud of dust and debris rising into the sky.

Selene fell to her knees, the shard now reduced to a pile of glittering fragments in her hands.

Aldric knelt beside her, his hand on her shoulder. "You did it, Selene."

Kael and Elara stood nearby, their expressions a mix of relief and determination.

Selene looked up at the horizon, her eyes filled with resolve. "Then we’ll keep fighting. Until the void is gone for good."
