Tears Amidst the Conspiracy
Aurora sat in the dining room, the dim glow of the chandelier casting soft shadows on her delicate features. Her fingers traced the rim of her wine glass absentmindedly as she stared into the deep red liquid. The wine was supposed to relax her, but nothing in her life had ever been so simple. Everything felt like a constant battle—against herself, against Andrew, and against the shadows of her past that she couldn’t outrun.
The door creaked open, the sound of footsteps echoing through the quiet house. Aurora didn’t look up. She didn’t need to. She knew who it was.
Andrew.
He wasn’t the man she had once imagined. Not the man who had charmed his way into her life with promises of love and a bright future. Instead, he was a stranger—someone who had become her husband for all the wrong reasons. Their marriage wasn’t built on love; it was a contract, a deal, something she had agreed to out of desperation. And yet, even now, as they lived under the same roof, there was something between them—a tension, a need for something more that neither of them were willing to admit.
Andrew dropped his coat onto the couch and moved toward the dining table, his gaze landing on Aurora. She didn’t even glance up at him, lost in the swirling thoughts in her head.He frowned when he noticed the empty plate beside her. “Where’s my dinner?” he asked, his voice filled with frustration.
Aurora raised an eyebrow but didn’t respond immediately. Instead, she swirled her glass in small circles. “Why don’t you ask the wife of your heart?” she replied coolly, not looking at him.
With a huff, she stood up, walking toward the kitchen without another word. As she moved, she felt his eyes on her, but she couldn’t bring herself to care.
Andrew followed her, his voice turning stern as he grabbed her arm. “Aurora,” he said, pulling her toward him, “you don’t just walk away when we’re not done talking.”
The tension between them was thick, but before anything could escalate further, Andrew’s phone rang. Reluctantly, he answered, his gaze never leaving her. “Hello?”
Aurora seized the opportunity. She slipped from his grasp and made her way to her bedroom, leaving him standing in the kitchen with his phone to his ear.
