Chapter 19
For a long moment, she simply stood there, taking in the sight of him trembling on the bed.
Then, with a slow, deliberate step, she crossed the room and stopped just a few feet away, her arms resting loosely at her sides.

You shouldn’t cry *voice steady but gentle*
Taehyung wiped hastily at his cheeks, though it did little to hide the evidence of his tears.

Who… who are you? *lips quivering*
The woman’s gaze didn’t waver.

I could ask you the same.
Taehyung
*grip on the blanket tightened*

I… I was bought *admitted, barely able to force the words out*
The shame that came with them burned deep into his chest.
At the sound of that name, the woman’s expression shifted—barely noticeable, but enough for Taehyung to catch the flicker of something darker crossing her eyes.

I heard *pause letting her eyes linger on taehyung pausing at his neck*

*unconsiously places his hand hiding the mark*

*furrowed his brows*

Why? *could’nt help but ask*

*faintest hint of a smile tugged at the corner of her lips*

Because no one else will be.
Her words left a strange ache in his chest. He wasn’t sure if it was comfort or something else—something lonelier

*lowered herself into a crouch, her elbows resting on her knees as she regarded him carefully*

*chuckled lightly, shaking her head*

Not exactly. I handle things. Make sure nothing falls apart.
Taehyung
*hesitated before asking the next question*

And… Jungukk? What is he to you?
Her eyes darkened again, but her voice remained calm.

I keep him in line. Or at least… I try to.
He was unsure if he felt reassured or more afraid
