Episode 1: The Rescue
A busy university courtyard. Aiden Frost is walking while looking at his phone. Alexander Drake is sitting on a nearby bench, enjoying a book.
Aiden
(muttering) “Okay, Aiden. One step at a time. No tripping. No falling. No—”
[Aiden’s foot catches on a loose stone. He flails wildly.]
Aiden
(shouting) “WHYYYY?”
[Alexander looks up just as Aiden stumbles forward toward a precariously placed fountain.]
Alexander
“Whoa, heads up!”
[Alexander springs forward and grabs Aiden by the arm, pulling him back before he crashes into the fountain.]
Aiden
(breathless) “I’m alive? Oh my God, I’m alive.”
Alexander
(smiling) “You’re welcome.”
Aiden
“Right. Uh. Thanks. I… you didn’t have to do that. I’m used to falling.”
Alexander
“I figured as much. You were like a domino mid-topple.”
Aiden
“Domino? Okay, that’s… fair.”
[Aiden dusts himself off awkwardly.]
Aiden
“I mean, physically? Sure. Emotionally? Questionable.”
Alexander
(laughing) “You’ve got a knack for drama, huh?”
Aiden
“Drama follows me, actually. Like a cursed shadow.”
Alexander
(teasing) “Then maybe I should stick around to protect you.”
Aiden
(blinking) “Wait. What?”
Alexander
(grinning) “Relax, I’m joking. Mostly.”
[Aiden stares at Alexander, trying to figure him out.]
Aiden
“You’re… weirdly nice. Is this a prank?”
Alexander
“Prank? What? No. I just think you’re… interesting.”
Aiden
(snorting) “Interesting? That’s new. Usually, it’s more like, ‘Oh no, it’s him again.’”
Alexander
“Well, I’m not ‘them.’ I’m Alexander. And you?”
Aiden
(hesitating) “Aiden. Frost. The guy who trips over air.”
Alexander
“Nice to meet you, Aiden. You’ve got quite the talent there.”
Aiden
(deadpan) “Oh, yeah. It’s my superpower. Falling in public. Step aside, Avengers.”
Alexander
(laughing) “Hey, every hero needs a unique skill.”
Aiden
(muttering) “More like a unique curse.”
[There’s a brief pause. Aiden fidgets, unsure how to end the interaction.]
Aiden
“Well, thanks for saving me. I should… probably go.”
Alexander
(teasing) “Sure you don’t need a bodyguard?”
Aiden
(laughing nervously) “I’ll… think about it. Bye.”
[Aiden hurries off. Alexander watches him go, amused.]
Later that day, Aiden is sitting in the campus library, still embarrassed about earlier. He pulls out his phone.
Aiden
(Thinking) “Okay, Aiden. Let’s brainstorm. How do you survive college without… dying?”
[He starts typing on his phone.]
Aiden
(reading aloud) “Step 1: Avoid loose stones. Step 2: Don’t talk to overly charming strangers. Step 3—”
[Someone taps his shoulder. Aiden jumps, nearly dropping his phone.]
Alexander
“Hey there, domino.”
Aiden
(startled) “Why are you here?!”
Alexander
(shrugging) “This is the library. Students study here. Including me. Weird coincidence, huh?”
Aiden
(suspicious) “Coincidence? Or are you stalking me?”
Alexander
“Stalking? Please. You think I’d waste my good luck on that?”
Aiden
“Good luck? You actually have good luck?”
Alexander
(grinning) “You could say it’s my superpower.”
Aiden
(muttering) “Great. You’re the anti-me.”
Alexander
(sitting down) “So what brings you here? Plotting world domination?”
Aiden
“Yeah, totally. Just waiting for my minions to text back.”
Alexander
(laughing) “I like you, Aiden. You’re funny.”
Aiden
“Funny in a ‘laughing at me’ way or a ‘laughing with me’ way?”
Alexander
“Definitely the second one.”
Aiden
(squinting) “I don’t trust you.”
Alexander
(grinning) “You will. Eventually.”
Outside the library. Aiden is walking home, replaying the interaction in his head.
Aiden
(thinking) “Okay. He’s weird. And nice. And probably not a serial killer. Probably.”
[A gust of wind blows a tree branch down, nearly hitting Aiden.]
[Alexander appears out of nowhere, pulling Aiden out of harm’s way again.]
Alexander
“Saved you. Again.”
Aiden
(staring) “Do you just have a sixth sense for when I’m about to die?”
Alexander
“Maybe I’m your guardian angel.”
Aiden
(deadpan) “More like an overly persistent shadow.”
Alexander
(laughing) “Well, shadow or not, you owe me now.”
Aiden
(groaning) “What do you want, a medal?”
Alexander
“How about dinner?”
Aiden
(choking) “D-Dinner?”
Alexander
“Sure. You know, as thanks. Or is that too forward?”
Aiden
(panicking) “I… uh… I guess…”
