"I... I didn’t mean to..."
She could feel the weight of her actions, her fear driving her to hurt the one person trying to save her. The hero’s smile remained, his presence calm as ever.

“Where is she?” she choked out, her voice breaking. “Where is my mother?”
Alaric's heart tightened at the sight of her vulnerability. He gently released her wrist, his expression softening as he sat beside her on the carriage floor, his large frame seeming to shrink in a gesture of care.

“I—”
She broke off, unable to say more. The pain of not knowing where her mother was, or whether she was alive, was unbearable.
Alaric reached out and gently placed a hand on her shoulder, offering her a brief moment of reassurance.

“I know you’re scared,” he said, his voice steady and comforting. “But you’re not alone anymore. We’ll find her, I swear it. You’re safe now.”
But even as he spoke, he couldn’t help but wonder—What had happened to the girl’s mother? And more importantly, Who had been behind all of this? The answers lay ahead, but for now, all he could offer was his word, and the promise of protection.
