The call of darkness

As Jessica stood there, trying to process the eerie voice and the mysterious room, she suddenly heard the sound of a phone ringing. She looked around, wondering where the sound was coming from, and that's when she saw it - an old, rotary phone sitting on a nearby shelf.

The phone rang again, and Jessica felt a shiver run down her spine. She hesitated for a moment, wondering if she should answer it, but her curiosity got the better of her.

She carefully picked up the receiver, and a low, gravelly voice spoke on the other end. "Hello, Jessica," the voice said. "I see you've found my secret room. Congratulations."

Jessica's heart was racing as she tried to process what was happening. "Who is this?" she demanded, trying to keep her voice steady.

The voice on the other end chuckled. "You'll find out soon enough," it said. "But for now, let's just say that I've been waiting for you. You have something that belongs to me, and I want it back."

Jessica's mind was racing as she tried to think of what the voice could be talking about. What did she have that belonged to this mysterious person?

"I don't know what you're talking about," she said, trying to stall for time.

The voice on the other end laughed again. "Don't play dumb, Jessica," it said. "You know exactly what I'm talking about. And if you don't return it to me, there will be consequences."

Jessica felt a chill run down her spine as the voice hung up the phone. She was left standing there, wondering what she had just gotten herself into,

As Jessica stood there, trying to process the ominous phone call, she heard the sound of footsteps echoing through the hallway. She turned to see the house owner, Mrs. Smith, walking towards her with a look of surprise and concern on her face.

"Jessica, what are you doing in here?" Mrs Smith asked, her eyes fixed on the open secret room.

Jessica hesitated, unsure of how to explain. "I...I was just exploring the mansion," she said finally. "I didn't mean to snoop around."

Mrs. Smith's expression turned serious. "You shouldn't have come in here," she said. "This room is off-limits for a reason."

Jessica felt a surge of curiosity. "What's going on, Mrs. Smith?" she asked. "What's the secret of this room?"

Mrs Smith sighed, her eyes clouding over. "You've already gotten in too deep, Jessica," she said. "You're already a part of this world. Just...be careful, okay? Stay safe."

Jessica felt a shiver run down her spine. "What do you mean?" she asked. "What world are you talking about?"

But Mrs. Smith just shook her head. "I've said too much already," she said. "Just remember...stay safe. I'll never come back to this mansion again. Goodbye, Jessica."

And with that, Mrs. Smith turned and walked away, leaving Jessica alone in the secret room. Jessica watched her go, feeling a sense of confusion and unease. What had just happened? And what did Mrs. Smith mean by "this world"?

As Jessica stood there, her heart racing with anticipation, the phone rang again, its shrill tone piercing the air. She hesitated, her hand hovering over the receiver.

Suddenly, the lights in the room began to flicker, casting eerie shadows on the walls. The air grew thick with tension, and Jessica could feel the weight of the unknown pressing down on her.

The phone rang again, its tone growing more insistent. Jessica's hand trembled as she reached for the receiver.

And then, just as she was about to pick it up, everything went black.

The phone's ringing stopped abruptly, and the room was plunged into darkness. Jessica was left standing there, frozen in terror, wondering what was happening.

And then, a voice whispered in her ear, "You shouldn't have come here."

Jessica spun around, but there was no one there. The voice seemed to be coming from all around her, echoing off the walls.

Suddenly, the lights flickered back to life, and Jessica saw that she was alone in the room. The phone lay on the floor, its receiver dangling from the cord.

Jessica's heart was racing as she realized that she had to get out of there, fast. She turned to run, but as she reached the door, she heard the voice again.

"You can't escape."

Jessica's blood ran cold as she realized that she was trapped. And then, everything went black again.
