Kim Taehyung, was always a step ahead. Lorenzo and Mara had been keeping tabs on Jungkook, and it didn’t take long for them to report his latest activities.
lorenzo
"He is getting too close, boss. That list he found—it’s dangerous. If it goes public, we’ll lose everything."
Mara Deluca
(more cautious)
"But he’s smart. And stubborn. If we try to stop him now, he’ll only dig deeper. Maybe there’s another way to handle this."
Taehyung leaned back in his chair, his expression unreadable as he considered their words. The thought of silencing Jungkook permanently crossed his mind, but something held him back. His fire, his resolve—it was infuriatingly captivating. He couldn’t deny it.
Kim Taehyung
(coldly)
"No one gets that close to me without paying a price. But killing her would be a waste. I have a better idea."
He instructed Mara to arrange a meeting between Jungkook and one of his lower-ranking operatives. The plan was simple: feed him false information that would lead him into a trap. Taehyung would handle the rest himself.
Jeon Jungkook
Jungkook sat on the edge of his bed, the dim glow of the city lights filtering through the window. His phone buzzed beside him, and when he saw the caller ID, a small smile tugged at his lips. It was Soobin, his little brother, calling at an unusual hour. He picked up immediately,
Jeon Jungkook
"Soobin? What are you doing up so late? It’s a school night."
Jeon Soobin
(his voice small and hesitant)
"I couldn’t sleep... I miss you, hyung."
Jeon Jungkook
Jungkook’s heart ached at the sound of his voice. he leaned back against the headboard, closing his eyes as he tried to keep his emotions in check.
Jeon Jungkook
"I miss you too, Soobin. But you know I’m working hard, right? I promise, as soon as I’m done, we’ll spend time together. I’ll even take you out for ice cream. Your favorite chocolate mint, right?"
Jeon Soobin
(brightening for a moment)
"Really? You promise?"
Jeon Jungkook
"Cross my heart. You know I never break a promise to you."
There was a pause on the line, and Jungkook could hear Soobin shifting, probably lying down on his bed. His next words were soft, almost inaudible.
Jeon Soobin
"It’s just... it feels like you’ve been gone forever. It feels like... you don’t want to be here with me and Mon and dad."
Jungkook’s chest tightened, guilt flooding through him. he had tried to shield Soobin from the dangers of his life, but in doing so, he had left him feeling abandoned.
Jeon Jungkook
( gently) "Soobin, listen to me. That’s not true. I want to be there with you more than anything. I think about you every single day my little cutie brother. You’re my world, okay?"
Jeon Soobin
(sniffling)
"But why can’t you just come home? I just want my hyung back."
Jeon Jungkook
Jungkook wiped at the tears gathering in his own eyes. he couldn’t tell him the truth—about Taehyung, the threats, the underworld he had been dragged into. He was too young, too innocent to carry that burden.
Jeon Jungkook
"I know it’s hard, Soobin. And I know it feels unfair. But sometimes, grown-ups have to do things they don’t like because it’s the right thing to do. I need you to trust me, just a little longer, okay? I’ll come back to you. I promise."
Jeon Soobin
"You really mean it?"
Jeon Jungkook
"With all my heart. And until then, I’m just a phone call away. Anytime you need me, no matter what, you can call me. Day or night."
Jeon Soobin
(his voice lighter now)
"Okay, hyung. But you have to answer, even if you’re busy!"
Jeon Jungkook
(laughing softly)
"I will. You’re my number one priority. Now, go to sleep, kiddo. You’ve got school tomorrow.
Jeon Soobin
(mocking his tone)
"Yes, Mom."
Jeon Jungkook
(teasing)
"Don’t make me come over there and tickle you."
Jeon Soobin
(laughing)
"Goodnight, hyung. I love you."
Jeon Jungkook
(his voice soft, filled with love)
"I love you too, Soobin. Sweet dreams."
As the call ended, Jungkook stared at the phone for a long moment, his smile fading into a look of determination. No matter what it took, he would keep his promise to Soobin. He would come back to him, whole and victorious. For now, that promise was the only thing keeping him going.
