She stepped back, but I quickly moved forward again, not giving her the chance to put space between us.
She let out a deep sigh.
"They're the grandsons of a friend," she said, not looking at me.
I didn't like that she wouldn't meet my eyes when we talked.
I took her chin in my hand, forcing her to look at me.
"Don't look away from me," I ordered.
She stared at me in surprise before her expression twisted into annoyance.
There they were -- those sapphire eyes I used to hate so much.
The ones that only reminded me of my greatest mistake.
Now they're the same eyes I long to see every single day.
I caressed her face gently, and she shivered in surprise.
It made sense. I'd never touched her before.
Not once -- except for that one night ten years ago.
"Aspen... Tell me something. Do you hate me?"
She thought about her answer for a long time before finally sighing and pulling my hand away from her face.
"I can't hate the father of my son." That was all she said before following her friends into the restaurant.
