Chapter 3

I quickly settled in the car and looked out the window. The sky was dark and the wind howled, and soon it started raining. I saw the rain drops trickling down the window.

"Uh.. Bella?"

"Yeah" I answered without turning. I knew what he was going to ask.

"Are you happy to come here ?"

"Why? Do you want me to go back?"

"No , it's not that." he assured quickly. In fact Charlie had been quite happy about the whole thing. He had even got me enrolled in a high school.

"I just.. nothing." he said.

"Bells, how would you like a gift?"

"What gift?" I asked warily.

He looked uncomfortable but finally said, "I got you car." Awkward silence.... More awkward silence.

"What kind of car, dad?"

"Its not a car, its a Chevy. They don't make any like them anymore."

"How much, dad?"

"Its free. The things old but runs great."

"Thanks dad." I mean wow Charlie got me something. For free. We drove home in silence. It's not that I didn't like to talk to him, he preferred silence.

We reached home and I saw the big red Chevy. It had big headlights and a big bumper. It was weird that I kind of liked it. Of course , it was nothing in comparison to the Porsche Carrera I had got back home, but you know it had got that whole Don't -Mess -With- Me -We-All -Will- Live -Longer -This -Way kind of vibe.

"Wow , I love it dad."

"Now, now, thanks." he mumbled embarrassed.

I took my suitcases up to my room. Charlie left me alone to work up with my room. He still lived in his small two bedroom house. His room was down stairs. Unfortunately I had to share the same bathroom with him.
