Breaking the Ice

*Scene:* The next evening, Kai is sitting at his desk, deeply immersed in a book. Luca enters the room, carrying a pizza box and a few soft drinks.

luca

(cheerfully) "Hey, Kai! I figured we could use some dinner. Pizza?"

kai

(looking up, surprised) "Oh, um, thanks. I didn't realize you were planning on ordering food."

luca

(setting the pizza on the desk) "I'm not much of a cook, and I figured it's a good way to break the ice. Hope you like pepperoni."

kai

(smiling slightly) "Pepperoni's fine. I usually just eat whatever's quick and easy."

luca

(grinning) "Perfect. Let's just say this is a step up from quick and easy."

kai

(hesitant) "I appreciate it, but you don't have to do this."

luca

(pouring drinks) "No big deal. We're going to be living together, might as well start on a good note. Besides, I'd like to get to know you better"

kai

(nodding) "Yeah, I guess that makes sense. So, what's your major again?"

luca

(taking a slice of pizza) "Photography. I'm all about capturing moments. And you're into literature, right? What's your favourite book?"

kai

(thinking) "It's hard to pick just one, but I guess 'To Kill a Mockingbird' is up there. What about you?"

luca

(enthusiastic) "I'm more into visual storytelling, but I appreciate a good book. Maybe you can recommend some others."

kai

(relaxing) "Sure, I'd be happy to. And maybe you can show me some of your photography sometime."

luca

(smiling) "Deal. Let's make it a trade-books for photos."
