Haruto’s gaze softened. “You didn’t have to worry about this. I told you I’d keep you safe.”

Yoshiro offered a small, grateful smile. “I know. But I can’t help feeling responsible. This café is my sanctuary. I want to do everything I can to protect it.”

Haruto walked over to Yoshiro, his frustration giving way to concern. “You’ve done more than enough. Just keep yourself safe.”

Yoshiro looked at him, his eyes reflecting the rain. “You’ve been putting yourself in danger for me. I’m not sure what I can do to repay that.”

Haruto shook his head. “You don’t owe me anything. Just stay safe.”

Haruto turned, a questioning look on his face. “What is it?”

Yoshiro took a deep breath, his usual calm demeanor giving way to a more vulnerable side. “I’ve been thinking a lot lately. About us. About how much this—” he gestured around the café, “—means to me, and how much you’ve come to mean to me.”

Haruto’s expression softened, touched by Yoshiro’s honesty. “Yoshiro, you don’t need to—”

“I know,” Yoshiro interrupted gently. “I just needed you to know that. I don’t want to leave anything unsaid, especially not with everything happening.”

Haruto took a step closer, his hand reaching out to touch Yoshiro’s. The gesture was simple, but it conveyed a depth of feeling that words couldn’t fully capture. “I’ve come to care about you a lot too. More than I expected.”

A loud bang on the door shattered the tranquility. Haruto’s instincts kicked in immediately. “I need to check that out. Stay here and lock the door behind me.”
