Freya's POV
"We're here."
"Kireina, put me down."
"Oh! I almost forgot!"
Once I was on my feet again, I observed the house I used to live in. With my father, mother, the dogs, and myself. Hold on.
"Hey Kireina—"
"Kir will do."
I sighed. "Fine. Kir, could you please explain as to what contract I sold my whole being so I could get this chance to start over?"
"Hmm...." she looks at me as if she's contemplating about something. "You are one weird human."
"You only noticed that?" I mean, ever since I was young, people have been calling me weird. Nothing new. "So? What about it? Does it have anything to do with the contract?"
"Oh." She was surprised. It was as if she was broken out of a trance or something. "Yes. Because not every human has the exact amount of mental sanity to accept everything so far."
What? "Certainly I'm still in awe of how I came back to the past and everything up 'till now might be just a dream of sorts, that is, considering you're just part of my illusion, but what if that future will happen? I can't just stand here and wait to find out if it's true. I don't think I have enough sanity to watch the love of my life dying—" Shit it's coming back to me all over again. "..." The stench of blood. The knife. The look in her eyes before her life was completely gone. And that bracelet. How could I forget such a traumatising event?
"Must be difficult watching it huh? I don't really understand the feeling of having someone you held most dear getting killed in front of you, but I do know it must be painful. And I know a human would mostly be unstable after—are you crying?"
I tried to wipe my tears away. "I know I'm weak." My voice broke at the end. "I've...I've always known. And that's—*cough*—that's why I have to get stronger. I don't—*sniff*—want to be the weak me anymore. I will get stronger and protect the people I love. This time."
I tried wiping my tears again when I felt someone hugged me from behind. Theirs arms circled around my waist. It was Kireina. This reminds me of 'her' somehow.
"Feel better?"
I chuckled. "Yeah. Thanks."
"Well, just stand still and listen to me explain the contract. Don't worry about other people. I already put a barrier—well, you get it, right?" She leaned her head to rest on my left shoulder. It's nice. "So will you stand still and listen to my voice for the time being?"
I just noticed. With her.....
I feel calm.
I feel at peace.
I feel safe.
So......I replied from the bottom of my heart.
"Ofcourse Kir!"
I could feel her smile. "Good. So let's keep it simple then. Aside from me, there are others out there who also made a contract with other humans like you. We, as what we were ordered to from The Most High, will not tell you anything of our origins and the like. Still with me?"
I nodded, focused on hearing more.
"Good. Now about the contract, it cannot be made with just any human. Hence, there's a criteria. First, the human must have a lot of mentality power. Obviously, it is needed for them to withstand the absurdity of everything. Second, the candidates must be neither too young or old. Since we're gonna go back time many years before they made most of their mistakes. You don't get it?"
How did she know?!
"It's showing on your face."
Oh.
"Let me explain. If the candidate is too old, let's say someone who is 70 years old is chosen, then if we go back 21 years or so then what's the point? They've already made most of their mistakes by then. The most important years are the years you start being a teen. You must've been thinking 'then just go back further, simple right?'"
Again. How did she know?!
I nodded.
She sighed. "It's not that simple. We were lucky enough to be given permission to turn back time 23 years before. We don't have that much power. But The Most High allowed us to....."
Huh? She's gone quiet.
"Actually, it really depends on us whether we tell you this or not but I'll tell you. You're just lab rats. This was an experiment from the very beginning and we are your observers and instructors on this game."
What? I opened my mouth to say something but the arms hugging my waist says otherwise. So I shut myself up. I nodded , as if to say continue.
"Good. You are dead. Period. You died. But your soul went back to heaven where it should be from the very start, and The Most High saw potential in you. So instead of staying in heaven, you became a player. That's right. All of this is a game. To be exact, you don't exist anymore. But because of the contract, you went back through time and became a different human being. You are still human, but your whole being belongs to me and The Most High. It has it's ups and downs. I mean, you can never go to hell or belong to The Devil. But you don't belong to any other humans either. That includes your parents and your previous lover."
What? Does that mean—
"It's a little bit of price for you to pay for going back through time and becoming a player in this game. Considering it's almost impossible to go back through time."
I gulped.
"'You can never be in a relationship with another human being.'" She sighed. "I know this is a lot. You should rest. I'll deal with your parents. Make them believe I'm your cousin or something."
"But what about—"
"It's fine. Go to sleep. Stop thinking so much. We can talk after you get some rest."
I wasn't really thinking much to begin with. I mean, I sort of had a mental short circuit or something like that. Oh well.
Time to sleep.
And I knew nothing.
