Sacrificed

As Jang Mei slowly opened her eyes and adjusted to the dim light, she could barely see the dark clouds in the pitch black sky.

It was the night of no moon. She looked around in panic and couldn't find anyone. Slowly she lifted her body and realized that she was left alone on a raised altar with antique signs and surrounded by burning candles.

She looked at herself and saw that she had been dressed in a red bridal gown.

Finally her memories came back hauntingly...

2 Days ago

It was supposed to be her 21st Birthday and according to her late parents' wishes, she would be inheriting their estate and fortune. She was the only child of the Jang family's eldest son who was a reputed nobleman, when he was alive.

Unfortunately both her parents passed away when she was just 2 years. There were rumours in the neighborhood that the Nobleman had disrupted old rituals in order to help the naive people and save them from the manipulation of shamans and corrupted priests who practiced superstitious rituals by performing sacrifices. As such he was known to be cursed by the demons.

Little Jang Mei was left an orphan, under the care of her old grandmother and her cunning uncle (father's younger brother) and his wife. As her grandmother also passed away when she was 10 years, she was left completely alone and vulnerable to the oppression and tyranny of her uncle and aunt and their two daughters. She lived as a servant in her own father's property. Her cousins were jealous of her beauty and mistreated her everytime. Finally her aunt conspired to get rid of her and take over her wealth which was supposed to be her's legally on her 21st Birthday.

Her aunt took the help of a shaman and convinced the village head that since the Nobleman (Jang Mei's father) had angered the demons, the village had always faced problems like famine, forest fires and diseases. Thus in order to pacify the demons and protect the villagers from the curse, the Nobleman's only daughter, Jang Mei had to be sacrificed and given as a bride to the Demon Lord.

Thus the entire village agreed to sacrifice the helpless girl. She was scared and heartbroken but there was no one to speak for her. Her own lover Li Feng had gone to the capital city to complete his studies and even his family didn't bother to help her.

So two days after her birthday was the ominous night of No Moon and they drugged her, dressed her as a bride and left her at the Altar of the Demon, in the forest on top of a hill in that dark night.

Jang Mei shivered with cold and fear and the howling of the wolves in the forest made her heart beat faster.

She felt so helpless that she started sobbing ...

Suddenly there was a rustle in the nearby grassfield. She quickly turned her head and saw something moving between the tall grasses... She was even more frightened.!

Suddenly two shady looking men appeared in front of her.

"Hmm ... So we are supposed to end her life for Madam Jang!"

"Yes...She is paying us a good amount for it!"

Her aunt was not satisfied with just the plan of sacrificing her to the Demon Lord. After all deep inside she knew that the curse was fake and it was just her trick to fool the villagers and make them agree. So in order to prevent Jang Mei from returning back, she had hired two men to kill her that night. It would be easier to murder her and blame the demons for it.

"Wouldn't it be a waste of such a beauty, if we kill her immediately?!!"

"So ...what do you plan to do with her?"

"Why don't we have fun with her throughout the night and kill her in the morning?"

"Nice idea....!!"

They had a lustful and crude expressions on their faces.

Poor Mei tried to get up and run, but the men quickly grabbed her by her arms.

One of them held her and the other started caressing her face...

Suddenly there was a loud roar of thunder from the sky and the trees and bushes started shaking wildly because of the fierce wind.

The two men also got startled. They looked around... still holding Mei who was struggling to escape.

The burning candles on the altar blew off, leaving them in complete darkness.

The earth trembled for seconds and all of a sudden there was a tall figure standing above the altar !!

"Who ...Who are you??!!!!!!"

The two men questioned, leaving Mei and drawing out their swords.

They pointed the swords at the figure but soon something weird happened to them. Their arms began to shake and their entire body began to twist, making them wail in pain . Within half a minute, they were dead on the ground with their joints dislocked, bent and crippled.

" HOW DARE YOU TOUCH MY BRIDE...!!!" came a deep voice from the figure...

Mei looked at the disgusting looking corpses around her and gasped in fear. Before she could move, the figure was right behind her, holding her by her waist.

The earth shook again and it seemed like the ground beneath her feet was loosening.

Then all she could sense was a feeling like as if she was falling down a thousand miles. She closed her eyes and held on to the figure tightly !!
