Ryan was taken aback by my words, but then he quickly recovered and said," Why would you fight for something that does not exist? Stop wasting your time and go back to your family."

He let go of my chin and moved towards the door again.

" I'm afraid I can not." I said, and I was actually shocked by how calm I was.

Ryan stopped walking for a moment but did not say anything. Then he walked out the door, leaving his right-hand man, Tom, still leaning against the door.

Tom still had an amused look on his face as he said, '" interesting." and turned to follow Ryan.

Once they left, I breathed out heavily. Trying to be brave in front of Ryan was not good for my health. For the first time since I ever knew this man in both my lives, my instincts told me to run as far as I could because he was dangerous. But I was not standing down, nor would I let such a thing get to me.

So after fixing my emotional state, I walked over to Jay Jay's room to read him the bedtime story I had promised him.

It had been 2 days since my little encounter with Ryan and his right-hand man. Ryan had not shown up at home that evening, and the next, so I assumed he had gone back to the borders to lead the army as per usual.

On the other hand, Master Evans was back, and he had been overly polite, trying to make me feel welcomed as his daughter-in-law. His odd behavior worsened when I told him about what Ryan had requested of me and how the life of the marriage proposal was about to reach us expiration date sooner than he had anticipated.

Master Evans did not even want to know my opinion on the matter and flatly refused that we dissolve the marriage.

" Miss Charlotte, do you know why I opted for a marriage proposal for my son?" he suddenly asked

" I do not, sir." I replied politely, though I was very curious

Master Evans sighed and said," I do not want him to be consumed by grief. Because if not closely monitored, grief can quickly turn into anger, then frustration and lastly revenge. I don't want my son to be a revenge seeking sucker because that would not only hurt him, it would hurt Jack too."

" Though Delilah died at a young age, she was a sensible young lady who I am sure would have understood the reasoning behind my actions. She wouldn't want my son to be loyal to their love if it meant that that love was internally tormenting him."

" So please, miss Charlotte, give him time and do whatever it takes to fight for the marriage, at least for my sake. " When he said this, I felt terrible, and I realized that it must have been very hard for him to watch his son tormenting himself over his passed wife.

" Okay. Do not worry Master Evans, I will do my best." I reassured him though I did not need the pep talk because that was my plan all along, I would definitely find a way to Ryan's heart because he was my main card for survival in this life!

Because if he trusted me and our relationship was good in my previous life, he wouldn't have doubted my faith to him and our marriage, right? He wouldn't have dealt with the issue mercilessly like it was a chore he had to quickly remove out of his way.

Perhaps he would have given me the benefit of a doubt. Perhaps if he loved me, he would have seen through the plot, and I would still be alive. I wouldn't have had to die miserably.
