My Neighbour
I woke up in a hurry and was about to leave for my college when grandpa shouted from behind
"Can you note down this number for me dear?" he smiled as his wrinkles made me remember the good old days when he used to give me piggy bank rides while I was enjoying a lollipop
The thought of this made me chuckle as I approached him and took his phone
"There you go" I handed him his phone with a soft smile and finally left
................
I reached college and soon after I ran to my class
The day ended with lots of laughter and gossip as usual with my three loyal friends. I was living a normal life just like a common middle class girl would live like, but I had imagined my life much more distinct than the one I'm living now. My parents live in another town and I never got to celebrate the warmth a mother's embrace holds. I didn't know the feeling of receiving gifts and surprises from my dear father. I wish I lived a normal childhood as my friends, but the truth was even if I craved for my parents'love I would not receive it because of the rules I was bound with.
I signed and left for home. Whenever I had nothing to do or was in deep thought my mind would come up with these thoughts of my life, how I wished it was. I always craved for my parents but more than that I want to forgo the stupid strict rules my parents tied me up with. I loved them but I also have a 'not-so-positive' attitude towards them for ruining my childhood with their strict rules and 'trying to make me a better person' thinking.
Anyway I reached home…and was greeted by my grandmother's warm smile that could melt anyone's heart and her usual greeting, "my lado came home". She calls me 'lado' which is my nickname since childhood.
"Lado go and freshen up I have made you your favorite mango shake" She came to me and pecked my forehead
I nodded and rushed to my room. After a few minutes I changed into my comfort clothes and went down to the kitchen. I saw grandma doing her work in the kitchen and hugged her from behind.
"The mango shake is on the table, oh and I forgot to tell you mom and dad are coming today" She continued with her work while telling me the news which was supposed to be a good one, but I didn't care.
I hummed in response and left with my shake. After all my stomach cared more about this delicious mango shake rather than the news I just heard. I saw grandpa talking to someone on the phone, sitting outside in our little garden with a cup of tea. I sat down beside him right when he finished talking. He sipped into his tea and sat there calmly.
Not gonna lie but I always notice and admire every little movement of him because he possesses all the qualities of a classy, well-mannered human. It won't be wrong to call him a perfectionist, speaking honestly. I have always adored his personality since childhood how strong and interesting of a person he is.
"How was your day?" he put his cup on the little wooden table painted white by himself.
"Just like always" I smiled at him as he chuckled and nodded
We continued to talk about all the random stuff we could think of and laughed. Sometimes I wonder if he remembers the good old days we spent together playing the whole day long. Just then I saw a familiar car stopped right in front of our house. It didn't take me long to realize it was my father's car and I stopped laughing.
The doors of the car opened and both my mom and dad stepped out of the car. Grandpa greeted them with his warm smile while I just stood there and gave them a soft smile.
"How's my daughter doing?" Mrs. Juhi who is supposedly my mother smiled at me
"I'm good, what about you..." I smiled back at her and picked up one of the bags to carry inside
Soon we all entered inside and sat down to talk
"How's your studies going Prisha?" my dad patted my head with a proud smile. No the proud smile was not because he was proud of me it was because I was being an obedient child just like they wished.
Well I was not obeying them just ignoring them to be honest. But I feel guilty for doing that to them, in the end parents always do what is good for their child...right?
suddenly my grandpa got a call and went outside. Someone named Bhavish called him,I had never heard his name before to be honest. But I shrugged it aside thinking it was none of my business and continued to talk with my parents.
