She scanned their surroundings, realizing they were still in the dangerous valley.
She needed to get him to safety, but he was too heavy to lift.
She pulled his arm around her shoulder, trying to drag him towards the edge of the valley.

She was making progress, she heard a rustling in the bushes nearby.

Evelyn's tension dissipated as a scrappy little cat emerged from the bushes, its fur matted and dirty.

Evelyn's eyes widened, taken aback by the steel in his voice. Despite his bleeding and weakness, Alex exuded a sense of power and control, as if he was still in charge of his fate.
