Chapter 4

Meanwhile, 50 miles (ca. 80 km) away, Moira had no idea that her best friend just signed new wedding papers. She was busy memorizing the Jason Caiem case and all the new-found evidence. She was currently meeting him in five minutes. Moira sat there in the waiting room, looking through the papers. Moira looked at her watch, thirty minutes have passed. Where was he? She stood up and asked the security guard beside the door about Caiem's location. The security guard shook his head and shrugged. Moira looked at him then looked back at her watch. Something wasn't right.

She walked out and went to his cell. He wasn't there. She was starting to reach her limit of patience. Suddenly she heard a crash. Moira swivelled her head to the noise. She walked towards the red door where the sound was detected. She pressed the door handle and opened it. Moira stared in shock at the scene in front of her. Two men against one. The two white men were bigger, hairy, tatted, with rotten teeth. The man against the two looked like Jason in her case. Jason was 6'2 while the other two men looked around 6'3. He looked clean and was in great shape. There were no traces of fat, just rock. His brown eyes were calculative, yet his facial expression indicated that he was indifferent about every situation.

Moira came out of her trance, hot boiling anger raging inside. Time was of the essence. They had wasted her TIME. Suddenly Jason was in front of her, pushing her out the way as he caught the knife thrown in her direction. Moira kept her balance then immediately took the gun from inside her jacket pocket and shot the ground beside the two big men, missing their toes by 3 cm. Silence filled the room, while fear spread like a disease. Moira picked up her thick book that contained her case and the laws. She walked up to the two men, gun still in hand. The two big men eyed the weapon with traces of fear in their eyes. Moira stopped abruptly in front of them, she leapt up, slapped one of the men with the thick book across his face, not caring that his mouth started to bleed and that two teeth had fallen out. The second man had no time to register what just had happened; he immediately got the same punishment. Jason stared at her, indifference masked on his face, but his eyes held amusement.

"YOU DARE TO THROW A KNIFE AT ME? Did I tell you to hit my client? " Moira roared as she stared down at the two men on the floor.

" You two wasted my time with my client. There is nothing that I hate more than my time wasted when solving a case." She stated clearly her voice full of authority.

" Go back to your cells immediately before I lose the small amount of patience I have left." Moira crouched down to their level, her eyes cold, she pointed the gun at them-" before I use this, and you guys will meet death early."

The two men nodded quickly. Moira walked back to Jason, who was staring at her.

"Mr Caiem, let's go." She said as she walked in front, leading him towards the waiting room as if nothing happened. Moira put on a plastic glove which she took from her purse, took the knife and put it into a bag.

They both sat down and stared at each other.

" Do you always do that?" He asked, his tone somewhat cold.

" Do what?" Moira enquired.

" Beat up inmates if they wasted your time with a client who might not even be innocent in the end? "

Moira laughed and shrugged. Her features were more relaxed, making her more attractive.

" Yes, Mr Caiem. My client needs to be alive and well for me to carry out the case, not bloody and bruised. Just a heads up, without a shadow of a doubt, the two men that I hit earlier will report me to the judge so if someone asks about the fine I have to pay, pay them no mind. I wouldn't have pulled out a gun if I didn't already have everything sorted " She replied.

Jason nodded. Jason stared at the woman in front of him. She was beautiful; he had to admit. Just by her action from earlier on, he could see the type of person Moira was. She was strong. That was a given. Not many had the guts to slap two big men with a book consisting of laws. He chuckled inwardly at the thought. This kitten had guts.

"Mr Caiem, I am here for your case. May I remind you that I don't have time for lies. Time is of the essence. What I ask you, you must respond honestly and tell me anything that comes to mind. If you dare to lie to me, I can guarantee that you will be blacklisted and no one will have the courage to get you out of here. If you're innocent." Moira stated. Jason nodded.

" Good. Now Mr Caiem, did you rob the Bank of Scotland?" Moira enquired.

" No"

"Mr Caiem, I will ask you once more, did you rob the Bank of Scotland?"

"No"

Moira pulled out a recording pen.

" This will be used in court against the people that made you spend two years in jail. If you lied to me, it would be evidence against you."

Jason couldn't help but smirk this time. He nodded.

Suddenly two guards with batons in their hands walked into the room. Moira looked at them.

" May I help you? " She questioned. They ignored her and surrounded Jason.

" Mr Caiem, please stand up," said one of the guards. Jason turned his cold gaze slowly to the guard.

"Why" he questioned.

" Please stand up," said the guard more firmly.

" What is this? I am his lawyer," said Moira standing up.

" And you will get a chance to talk to your client and the judge in one hour. Just not now. Please stand up Mr Caiem. Last time that I will ask "

Jason glanced at Moira, who nodded. Jason stood and automatically put his hands behind his back, his gaze on Moira who gave him an understanding smile. Moira followed the guards as they brought him back to his cell. Jason walked in and sat on the bed.

Moira looked at him and mouthed " Sorry " with a smile on her face. That was the last thing he saw before the door slammed shut. Jason chuckled. This woman. How will she pay back the fine?
