Chapter 4: ~~A Unexpected Offer
Taylor sat at her laptop, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she worked on her latest manuscript. She was a force to be reckoned with, a bold and independent writer who didn't take crap from anyone. Her phone buzzed with an email notification, and she raised an eyebrow as she read the message.
"Akira Matsumoto, the famous publisher, wants to meet with me?" she said aloud, her voice dripping with skepticism. "This ought to be good."
The meeting was scheduled for the next day at a trendy cafe in the city. Taylor arrived early, her sharp eyes scanning the room for any sign of Akira. She spotted him sitting in the corner, typing away on his laptop, and her eyes narrowed.
"Akira Matsumoto," she said, her voice firm but polite as she approached him. "Thanks for meeting with me today."
Akira looked up, his eyes crinkling at the corners as he smiled. "Taylor, great to meet you. I'm a big fan of your work."
Taylor raised an eyebrow, her eyes locked onto his. "Really? Which piece of mine did you read?"
As they sat down and began discussing her book, Taylor was impressed by Akira's knowledge and passion for publishing. But just as things were going well, a commotion at the door caught her attention. A tall, imposing figure stood in the entrance, scanning the room with an intense gaze.
"Kaito Ryūjin," Akira muttered under his breath. "What is he doing here?"
Taylor's eyes locked onto Kaito, her gaze piercing. "And who might you be?" she asked, her tone sharp and confident.
Kaito's eyes narrowed, his face darkening. "You don't know who I am?"
Taylor smiled, her lips curling upwards. "No, but I'm sure you're about to tell me. Aren't you, Mr. Ryūjin?"
Kaito's eyes flashed with anger, but Taylor didn't back down. She knew how to handle men like him, and she wasn't impressed.
"I'm Kaito Ryūjin," he growled. "And I'm here to make you an offer you can't refuse."
Taylor raised an eyebrow, her eyes locked onto his. "Oh? And what makes you think I need your help, Mr. Ryūjin?"
Kaito's face darkened, his eyes blazing with intensity. "You're a talented writer, Taylor. But you need someone with my resources and connections to make it big."
Taylor laughed, her voice sharp and mocking. "Someone like you? I don't think so, Mr. Ryūjin. I'm not some damsel in distress who needs a knight in shining armor to rescue me. That's a no for me then."
Kaito's face turned red with rage, his eyes bulging with anger. "You dare to defy me?" he growled, his voice low and menacing.
Taylor stood her ground, her heart pounding in her chest. She had dealt with men like Kaito before, and she knew how to handle them.
"I'm not defying you, Mr. Ryūjin," she said, her voice firm and confident. "I'm just not interested in your offer. And by the way, your hair looks like you stuck your finger in a socket. Did you use an entire can of hairspray to achieve that look?"
Kaito's eyes widened in shock, his face turning an even deeper shade of red. "My hair?" he spluttered. "You dare to mock my hair?"
Taylor shrugged, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Well, it's just so... puffy. Like a corgi's butt."
Akira, who had been watching the exchange, couldn't help but burst out laughing. "Pfft, that's a good one, Taylor!" he chuckled.
Kaito's face turned purple with rage, his eyes bulging with anger. "You'll pay for this, Taylor," he growled. "You'll regret not taking my offer."
Taylor rolled her eyes, a sarcastic smile on her face. "Oh, I'm shaking in my boots, Mr. Ryūjin. But I think I'll survive without your help. And your hair will still look like a failed science experiment, no matter what you do."
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving Kaito standing there, his face twisted with anger and his hair looking like a rejected cartoon character. Akira pfft again, shaking his head in amusement. "Well, that was entertaining," he chuckled. "I think I'm going to enjoy working with you, Taylor."
Taylor turned back to Akira, a sly grin spreading across her face. "Oh, you think so, huh? Well, I'm glad you're enjoying the show. But don't worry, I'm not always this sassy. Only when I'm dealing with arrogant billionaires who think they can buy everyone and everything."
Akira chuckled, his eyes crinkling at the corners. "Well, I think I can handle it. And I have to say, I'm impressed. You're not afraid to speak your mind, are you?"
Taylor shrugged, her grin still in place. "Not afraid, no. I just don't see the point in sugarcoating things. Life's too short, and I'm too busy writing bestselling novels to waste time on political correctness."
Akira laughed, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Well, I think we're going to get along just fine, Taylor. And who knows, maybe we'll even make a bestselling novel together."
Taylor raised an eyebrow, her grin still in place. "Oh, you think so, huh? Well, I'm not sure about that. But I'm willing to give it a shot. As long as you promise to keep your hair under control."
Akira chuckled, running a hand through his messy hair. "I make no promises, Taylor. But I'll try my best."
