Episode 4

They didn’t go so far from Giri’s home but while running it seemed like the home is so far away! While running, Giri looked around her. She saw nobody’s running or trying to escape. Everyone was looking at them awkwardly, trying to figure out what’s going on. Giri stopped for a while and screamed, “Listen, run, RUN!” Kishi grabbed her then again ran like an angry bull running towards its target. He said in a hurry, “Think about yourself first. Save yourself first.”

Giri: I can’t. I cannot run anymore.

After that, she took Kishi to the nearest public toilet and locked the door. They locked themselves in.

Kishi: What are you doing? What if they break the door?

Giri: I hurt my leg. I can’t run anymore. Let’s just take a chance okay? We can’t survive if we run. I want you to run and go away but I know you won’t.

Kishi covered the commode and sat on it. Both of them are tired. So tired.

Giri: Turns out this room is almost abandoned. This wall has a hole here linking it with the bathroom beside it. People never use these two rooms for this. That’s why this room is pretty clean. Consider yourself lucky rich guy! (laughs nervously trying to distract Kishi’s mind)

Giri always takes a backpack with her wherever she goes. In that bag, she keeps four water bottles, energy biscuits and a first aid box. When she was 16 years old, she used to hang around with her friends a lot. One of her friends once got hurt and she didn’t know what to do. Although she was taken to the hospital immediately and she was treated well but what if she died in front of her eyes. That’s why she always keeps a first aid box with her. The biscuits are just snacks.

Giri hurriedly gave Kishi a water bottle and grabs her phone. She called Porboth. It didn’t take long for Porboth to pick the call.

-Hello!

-Porboth! Where are you?

-What happened? Why are you talking like that?

-(screaming) Where are you?

-Home.

-Don’t go out. Don’t you dare!

-What happened? I didn’t do anything this time. Why are you grounding me?

-Do not open the door if anyone comes home.

-Why?

-Not even us. Don’t let us in without checking if we are safe.

-How am I supposed to know that you are safe if I don’t open the door? Sis, what’s going on?

Giri didn’t really have to explain everything over the phone. Porboth came to know everything in the news. He became terrified. Turns out she wasn’t grounding her at all! he felt guilty for replying “Gross” instead of “I love you too”. He hurriedly locked every doors and windows. Covered it with paper and tape leaving a few spots open to see what’s going on outside. While doing it he saw that their area is still safe from those things. He grabbed some money from Giri’s savings, went out to buy some food and groceries. It took him only 10 minutes because the store was right under their building. Who knows when will this store open again!

On the other side, Giri and Kishi are still trapped in the toilet. It was 8:30 pm. Both of them are scared and trembling. Kishi hugged Giri. Kishi knew that Giri was suffering from acute anxiety. Any kind of stress or pressure might attack her. He kissed her on her forehead and said, “Don’t worry. Don’t be afraid. Everything will be alright.”

-What were those things?

-I don’t know. I don’t even care. I just know that I’m never going anywhere near them.

-Are those zombies!?

-Zombies are not real. They can’t be. Zombies eat brains. When they eat brains from other living things they turn into zombies too. How can they move without a brain?

-How do you know that zombies are not real?

-I literally just explained the whole thing to you!

Giri breaks down. Tears rolled down from her eyes. Kishi noticed that she was holding something. He asked, “What’s that?” pointing towards her fists.

-hm?

- In your fists?

-Oh! (opening her fists) It’s the money the driver gave me. I couldn’t return it to him! (Her voice is trembling now) The driver was a good man, no?

-How do you know?

-Everyone was running. But he wanted to go there and help them. All by himself. He even trusted us with this money and the car. He barely knew us!

This time Kishi couldn’t hold back. He was sobbing. They’ll never forget this incident. It’s like a trauma for them. The moment when the driver got bitten he started groaning like a fish without water. His whole body became bloody and red!

While thinking about these things they heard that everyone outside started screaming. Even the angry roars were there. The dogs started barking. Kids started crying. Fire alarms were ringing. Somebody came and locked himself inside the bathroom beside them. The room that was linked with theirs with a small hole. He started crying, he was terrified. It was a boy. Like he’s 19! Apart from these things Giri was only thinking about if he got bitten. Kishi asked him straight if he got touched by them. He shook his head. He was safe.
